Why don't they assign the same colour for both shapes? I guess that would be still more prescise to conclusion that's drawn here.

Not convincing if the experiment doesn’t involve switching them to see if it’s consistent. Because maybe they just like one type of smile more. Or maybe it’s the yellow part instead of this blue.

The characters not being the same in appearance might influence? Ofc if they were, it'd be difficult to let the infant choose between them (as they'd look the same) but couldn't the fact that colour, shape and the features (smile) are different influenced their choice?
