This happens when your light source is close enough to have width so light rays from it experience parallax. Fuzzy edges of the shadow are a telltale sign. (Really pronounced in the third example)

Light scatters the edges of the shadows and when the scattered edges overlaps it becomes darker. You can make it work in photoshop.

If you see the shadow of a tree on a sidewalk, walk through it and watch the simulation have a hard time rendering your shadow, almost looks AI.

It's because light travels in wave form. In that narrow space it does according to the nature's law

There’s no way on this flat earth that that’s possible. Unless you get past the ice wall.

your light source is not a point, you see overlapping shadows

Everything is energy and magnetic. Think two magnets getting close together and then that force you feel when they get close enough, that’s the shadow. I don’t know. Just making conversation. 😀

Its a common rendering issue, its out of the main branch road map so its probably going to be patched around 2030

Diffraction of light from an area light (not point source) causes soft, fuzzy edged shadows to "recombine" as light waves from the two different edges overlap and interfere with each other causing this unexpected, strange effect. It's physics. Embrace it as you deal with it.

I noticed this as a kid. It's because the light beam isn't perfectly perpendicular to the imaginary plane of the balls, on top of the beam not being perfectly perpendicular to the wall. It creates a tiny shadow. If everything was fixtures correctly, that bleed of the shadow would disappear.

So if two guys take their balls and put them very close to each other but not touching, they are in fact touching on an unseen level and so they actually do become gay even without physically touching. Mind blown 😳

Ball's shadow splitting into triplets under that harsh light? Sim devs skimping on ray-tracing again, like the 2023 Unity leaks ghosting identical assets. Reality's just beta overload.

its because of overlapping penumbra. its taught in middle school.

The observer affects how the shadows react.

When two shadows like each other very much, sometimes they kiss.

The window has multiple layers and is higher dimension. It would be different if you take a 2-D object and project in the shadow of that. But it’s a 3-D object projecting the shadow in 2-D. You have more dimensions projecting into a lower dimension. Call it 2.5-D.

Looks like the left hand is not exactly next to the right hand, it’s slightly back. So it would seem the shadow would overlap.

It’s because the one ball is horny for the other, jack one off and watch it not longer do that
