Micro-Switch. Back in the 8 and 16 bit days, if your joystick did not have micro-switches, but those dreaded bubble-switches, it was pure garbage and were guaranteed to fail after a few hectic sessions of "Summer Games" and similar titles.

Limit switches that are wired in a single pole double throw arrangement.

Basically it is two components, switches to be exact. They are paired so DC current flows either on direction or the other. Not a very good solution since both buttons can be pushed at the same time causing a short.
