That's not true. Diamonds can wear out if you keep rubbing them with sand or bricks.
My Wife's diamond is full of scratches, even has a couple of chips... this guy is trying to take you for a ride.

A diamond can be scratched by any other material harder than diamond. That's the general rule of scratching anything harder will scratch the softer. Almost all compunds are not just one material instead are a mix of materials so the results will vary among materials.
