This is the main reason why I canโ€™t listen to audiobooks. Theyโ€™re narrated too slowly. I read very quickly and find it frustrating when the speed is controlled audibly in trainings or whatnot.

No problem. When I was in the 4th grade, about 1964, we had speed reading lessons where stories were flashed on a screen, faster each day. At the end of each story we were given a comprehension test. This lasted a few weeks. Many years later I became a SpEd teacher and used a reading fluency program (speed reading) for my reading disabled kids. They all showed improvement many surpassing the regular Ed kids. Reading fast is a learned skill that anyone can develop.

I love reading so this wasn't that hard. But looking back without reading it, it's amazing how Our minds can keep up even if we don't fully perceive the words. Also everyone of you in the comment section is worth it and valuable. ๐Ÿซถ

I wish books were like that.

It's not "reading" per se. It's "word recognition". We identify words we have already learned... it's like a short-cut. We're only truly "reading" when we see an unknown word for the first time and sound it out. Imo at least.

In elementary school in New York 65 years ago, we were trained to speed read. Me and most of my class of regular students got up to over 625 wpm. That was when we were being educated, not indoctrinated.

Most people are going to be able to read this, because it requires no eye movement, and the words simply change for the user. Add to this the black background, and it becomes very easy to focus. It is a cool little experience, but it isn't quite the same as speed reading.

I never considered I read that fast and I think reading it word by word made it easier to retain the information than when I read a book. Weird (I got to the end) ๐Ÿฅฐ
