John Piper hates Americans. He dismisses our need for place as "ideology."

Ideologues almost always seem only capable of seeing other ideologies.

Piper rightly recognizes that everything must be examined in light of Scriptural teaching, including cultural norms. The problem is that he 1.) seems to conflate Scriptural teaching with certain aspects of cultural Marxism and social liberalism and 2.) tends to forget that tangible, material blessings are still gifts from God. He fits the Puritan stereotype (not that this is actually reflective of the real Puritans) and plucks the thorns for himself, discarding the rose thinking he pleases the God who gave it to him
