I've always used the measurement model, but now that I learned about the partitive model I'm switching to that one. Very satisfying. The last visual made my head swim.

Wow I would have been so much better at math in school if I had a teacher like you! I memorized how to multiply/divide fractions but I never got it got it (really understood it) until you just explained it. 💡

I also use a table with my students. First, we figure out how many 1/2s are equivalent to 1 whole (2 x 1/2) so then we multiply the 2 groups by 3! 6 groups of 1/2 = 6/2 which = 3! Often, we also use Total divided by each = Groups. Then, we change that equation to groups x 1/2 =3

I'm always a fan of rectangles or ares model. It continues its uses all the way up through algebra with polynomials!!

Do you have a preferred elementary math curriculum? I teach 5th grade Singapore Math Standards Edition. It would show this using the measurement model but with a bar model instead of a number line.

Factors and products works for me. :)

I figure out how many halves there are in 3 whole. The first way. :)

The way I visualize it is to make 3 a fraction and flip the second fraction to its reciprocal all in the head and multiply them

i thought the answer was 1.5 …

I am not getting the partitive model?
