There does seem to be a clear diversification of Canada’s defence relationships here. But one correction: Canada hasn’t cut the F-35 order from 88 to 16. Sixteen are under firm contract. The remaining 72 are under review. That’s an important distinction.

Canada’s public boycott of US products is really starting to take shape and Canada’s talks with the EU on oil and gas sales presents an opportunity for Canada to diversify trade while at the same time strengthening the EU’s position with the U.S. If this becomes a full on trade war, countries can work together to hurt the US more than they can hurt us. It’s all about smart management built of consultation. The UK and Europe should be looking to discount travel from Canada and Mexico and visa versa.

And it is reflective of this administration's entire approach to their relationship with Canada. They want to have all the benefits of a relationship with Canada, but they also want to punish Canadian workers to bully us, to tell us who we can trade with. It is the definition of an abusive relationship.
