Canada needs more student housing. It helps students find a place they can afford near their classes and creates space in the community for families, which brings down the cost of a home for everybody. That’s why we’re going to build more of it.

@VivianeLapointe Now we will pay for foreign students housing? They can afford to go to school in Canada and pay College fees. I’m in Lapointe’s riding. I do not agree.

No. What’s needed is less international students. A 35% reduction, for 2 yrs does nothing. You created a tsunami. You ignored your own internal dept warnings 2 yrs ago. Now, all related infrastructure is suffering, including healthcare. Your incompetency is costing Cdn lives.

Since then, we've worked with communities all over Canada to legalize housing, and to make it faster and easier to build homes. We’ve worked to build more homes near transit, more homes for students, and more homes at prices folks can actually afford. The progress is picking up across the country. In Halifax, there’s been a 40% increase in building permits in the last year. In London, starts increased by 65%. In Kitchener, they donated land to help create 10,000 homes. Over in Brandon Manitoba, they created incentives to get builders building more homes in their downtown, while the City of Saanich focused on pre-zoning university-owned sites so that students can live closer to where they study at the University of Victoria. We've got further to go, and we’ll keep working to get you into a home, faster. Stay tuned for the next round of Housing Accelerator Fund deals!
