Ive done the same thing twice. This kind of tenant turns up with references and a deposit. No problem. 6 months later you turn up with high court bailiffs because they didn’t pay rent and throw them out. Serve oapers on them for money owed and assett grab. Simple. Remember, you are the landlord, you didn’t adopt them!!

Looks like old man has a property manager who didn’t tell him what was happening. Unfortunately he’s going to be out more than three grand after doing something this illegal. Not very smart.

Property Managers need to be overhauled for the problems they cause. But the renter is right. Landlord can’t just change locks. He’ll lose in court. Yes, he’ll get his house back after a time, but the renter will pay in bits and pieces.
