Validators use proof-of-stake to agree on the chain’s state. The Celo Ethereum L2 has been ON FIRE in 2026 so far. Since transitioning to an Ethereum Layer-2 network, Celo has been on a tear. We’ve picked some of its biggest milestones from 2026 that you might have missed… (1) The network has now processed a total of more than 1.3 billion transactions [1.329 billion to be more precise]. JPMorgan's JPM Coin just landed in Argentina, and it could be the start of a much bigger Latin American push. A group of Argentine banks including Banco CMF through its corporate unit QORP has begun piloting JPM Coin, JPMorgan's fiat-backed deposit token, for interbank settlement and reconciliation. The pilot is currently running without real money, using blockchain to record and reconcile transactions while traditional systems handle final settlement, but Banco CMF's CIO says the goal is to verify improvements in settlement times of up to 50%. Banco Galicia, BIND, and Banco Comafi are reportedly evaluating whether to join. The timing is notable. Argentina's central bank still bars banks from offering crypto to customers, but internal blockchain use is not prohibited, and that restriction is under active review.
