Card surcharges are gone. We’re making prices clearer and cutting the cap on credit-card interchange fees from 0.8% to 0.3%. While the Coalition complains, we’re making the payments system cheaper and more transparent. #auspol

Cool story…. Then there’s the truth. You didn’t like people paying less with cash and this 👇

ALP policy adviser #1: "Won't many voters see through this gimmick & realise that businesses will just bump up their prices if ban the credit card surcharge?" ALP policy adviser #2: "Sure, but many won't." The ALP truly believes that most voters are dumb.

You mean like Albanese and Chalmers promising to lower our electricity bills by $275.00,..but instead implementing policies that have increased them by 30%.

Please explain

No. This is just a lie. Another one.

Yes, every single minute, and it grows every day. Labor are economic illiterates.

I "CADAVER MAN " told all the shop keeps to raise their prices instead.

You just increased prices on everything you retard and that'll flow into the next quarters inflation numbers.

It was clear. You didn't like people using cash to avoid the surcharge. Now prices will increase for all. ...and the ATO shows it doesn't want to absorb the surcharge.....

Are you aware how offensive it is to suggest Aussies are so stupid as to believe this gimmick based on manipulative political spin?

Having a fee now included in the sale price instead of being transparent is the opposite of being transparent.

@ElaineM11584892 So effectively you're saying you expect small business to take the margin? Why does @AustralianLabor hate small businesses?

Everyone will pay more. It’s not rocket science. So andrew has just driven up inflation, and put the banking cartels interests above Australians, whilst giving us a record 16 cash/interest rate rises & an increase in GST. Hey reader, andrew thinks you’re an idiot & hates you.

FFS Andy, the charges just didn't go away. Who do you think pays now?

your hamfisted tax changes are wiping out hundreds of $1000s in value from people's assets... but hey, the pub can't tag 18c on the price of a schooner when you pay by card. Just brilliant.

This is a hidden tax on people who like to use cash because the sticker price that applies to everyone will have the surcharge built in to it.

And inflation is up, up, up! Great job champ!

Andrew when shops put up their prices 2% what does this do to the next inflation read and will it trigger the RBA to raise rates?

How much extra GST will the guvmint make from forging businesses to increase their prices by 1.5% to compensate for them having on pay the surcharge?

You complete cretin.

So why is the government NOT accepting cards for bill payments?

🤣🤣🤣🤣 just like albo you must be retarded. You didnt save anything you simply moved the cost to the menu

But we can’t pay our tax debt via card because your government has decided to not accept credit cards anymore? Once again killing small businesses by one thousand cuts. Bring on the next election, can’t wait to see the end of you incompetent drongos

Everything has gone up under Andrew and his government

Just imagine how much less Anika Wells expense budget will be now the coffee shop is paying for the governments credit card fees!

See this claim - another lie!! Your shallow evaluation makes you unworthy of such a title!

You can’t be serious, the cost will be passed onto the consumer, FMD you and your treasonous government are totally insane

Tone deaf, financially illiterate, morally bankrupt.

The minister for shopping trolleys and windsocks falsely claiming he and his Albanese comrades did us a favour. Airhead.

Idiot.

Mate. *Mate.* I need you to sit down. I need you to put the Politics Now mug down. I need you to read your own tweet back to me, slowly, like you're reading a patient's chart for the first time and the numbers don't match the name on the file. "Making prices clearer." You just *removed the line item from the receipt.* You made it *invisible.* You looked at the one place a customer could actually *see* the cost of the card they chose to tap and said "nah, let's bury that in the sausage roll." And then you walked up to the cameras and said "see, *clearer* now." It's like a restaurant removing the "service charge 10%" line from the bill, folding it into the price of the risotto, and then the chef comes out and says "see, *transparent* now, you can see *exactly* what the risotto costs." You can't. You just can't see the 10% anymore. And that's not *clarity.* That's a *cloche.* "Cutting the cap on credit-card interchange fees from 0.8% to 0.3%." *Beautiful.* That's a 0.5% cut. On the *interchange.* Which is the slice the *issuing bank* takes. Not my invoice. Not the number that leaves *my* pocket. I pay **1.7% on a Visa tap.** I pay **3% on an Amex.** You've just taken 0.5 off the top of a number that was never on my invoice to begin with. My acquirer's rate card doesn't say "interchange 0.8%." It says "effective rate 1.73%." You've cut 0.5 off a *component* and presented it at the News 24 podium like you just handed every small business in Australia a $400 refund. And I *appreciate* it. I do. 0.5% on 4,000 transactions a month is about $60. I'll take the $60. I'm not a *cunt.* But you can't stand up there with the little sash and the "we're making the payments system *cheaper*" energy and I can't go "alright, $60, thanks, you absolute legend" because the *sash* was there and the *podium* was there and the "while the Coalition complains" bit was there and I'm supposed to *weep* at $60. "While the Coalition complains." They're not "the Coalition." They're Greg. And Sarah at the bakery. And the bloke who sells fire extinguishers in the industrial estate off the Hume. They don't have a party whip. They don't have a shadow minister. They have a *SumUp reader* and a *monthly invoice* and a *wife* who asks "why is the rent up again" on the third Tuesday of the month. You don't get to call them "the Coalition" like they're a *faction* you're managing. They're the *other people* in the transaction, Andrew. The ones whose name doesn't get on the Treasury transcript. "Making the payments system cheaper and more transparent." Cheaper. By 0.5% on one layer of a three-layer fee stack that still nets me 1.2 to 2.5% per transaction. And *transparent.* By taking the one visible number off the receipt and *hiding* it in the product price so no one can point at it, argue with it, or say "hey, that's 20 cents, I could've just used a fiver." You've made the system *cheaper* by a few cents and *more transparent* by *removing the transparency.* That's not a payments reform, Andrew. That's a *rebrand.* You took "surcharge," a word that made people *angry* because they could *see* it, and replaced it with "price," a word that makes people *accept* it because they *can't.* And I'll say it again because I think it's the bit that actually *matters* and everyone's skipping over it: You can't make a fee *invisible* and then call that *transparency.* You can't remove the line item and then get *offended* when the price goes up 8 cents and the customer goes "why." The 8 cents *is* the line item. You just put it in a different drawer and locked the drawer and threw the key in the harbour and walked up to the camera and said "see, no more fees, *transparent*, *clearer*, *cheaper*, and if you're *complaining* then *you're* the one being *dodgy.*" I'm not being dodgy, Andrew. I'm being *1.73%.* That's the number on the invoice. That's the number that leaves my account. That's the number I was *charging you* before, and that I'll *still be* charging you after, because 0.5 off a component isn't 0.5 off the whole thing. And I will *always* be "the Coalition complaining." And Greg at the hardware store will always be "the Coalition complaining." And Sarah at the bakery will always be "the Coalition complaining." Because the other option is that you're a small business with a *cost of doing business* and that's not a *political faction.* That's just... a *business.* With a *cost.* But sure. Sash. Podium. "Cheaper and more transparent." I'll take the 8 cents. I'm not a *cunt.* But I'm not *weeping.* And I'm not *grateful.* And I'm not *quiet.* And the sausage roll is $4.88. And you'll never see the 8 cents on the receipt. And that's not *transparent,* Andrew. That's *hiding.* 🪨 #auspol

These people are have no idea what they’re doing, businesses are going to either pass on the cost or stop accepting credit cards same as the ATO just did…please kick them out at the next election!
