🚨 Serious Safety Concern: University Buses' Reckless Driving Putting Student Lives at Risk in #Islamabad Today, a deeply troubling incident was reported from International Islamic University Islamabad (#IIUI), where a university bus narrowly avoided a major accident. The bus, while crossing an underpass, suffered a tire burst caused by the driver’s reckless over-speeding and sharp turning. This dangerous driving left students shaken, with one young female student fainting from the shock. Unfortunately, this is not an isolated incident. Students have repeatedly complained that university buses are driven carelessly, with drivers showing an alarming obsession with speed as if competing in a race while completely ignoring the safety of passengers. This negligence is putting lives at serious risk. The problem is not limited to university buses. Across Islamabad, especially with heavy vehicles belonging to government departments and institutions, reckless driving has become a dangerous norm. These vehicles are often driven “Fast & Furious” style, without consideration for passengers or other road users. 👉 It is high time the Islamabad administration and relevant authorities take strict action. University administrations must also be held accountable to ensure their drivers follow safety protocols. Student lives or any citizen’s life must not be put at risk due to irresponsible and unprofessional driving. 🔴 Safety must come first. Lives are too precious to be gambled with speed and negligence. What happens when an autonomous robotaxi gets into an accident? So far, nothing. Yesterday, I rode in a Zoox robotaxi and got hit by an RTC bus in front of New York New York. The Zoox was trying to turn right into New York New York on Tropicana Avenue just after crossing Las Vegas Boulevard and the bus was trying to get over to make its stop. What I saw, was the RTC bus merging into the front left of the Zoox robotaxi and then a crunching sound followed by a grinding sound. Pretty sure it was the RTC bus at fault. Impact detected. The Zoox robotaxi stayed in place while a warning popped up on the user display. Zoox support came over the in-car speaker and asked if I was okay and then eventually had me exit the vehicle at the New York New York rideshare area. Then, it just took off. The RTC bus? It also took off. The driver never got out to check to see what happened. Loaded up some passengers and went about the day. Nobody stayed around to file a police report, so I did. The Nevada State Troopers are scratching their heads at what to do here and so am I. Now I have a lot of questions that won’t get answered probably. I am okay and not injured thankfully, just shaken up a bit. As far as riding Zoox again, I feel it is safe to ride and highly recommend trying it out if you haven’t. On a side note: The Zoox took the hit pretty well and I couldn’t see damage when I checked it out. The bus had a nice scrape on its right wheel fender. I will keep you all updated on this.

Multiple Casualties Reported in Marsabit Attack An attack took place along the Eledimtu-Forole Road in Marsabit County just a few kilometres from the Ethiopian border late last night. A lorry carrying nine passengers was ambushed by an armed group, leading to the tragic deaths of seven people who included two minors from a local secondary school. The attackers shot at the vehicle indiscriminately, before setting it ablaze and burning some of the bodies beyond recognition. The sixth victim reportedly succumbed to bullet wounds in a nearby thicket. Among the passengers, one boy was found this morning with a fractured limb, while another person sustained burn wounds but managed to reach Forole for help. The only other survivor, a girl in Form One, miraculously escaped unhurt and fled into the night. The tragic incident was reported to Forolle Police Station by a 16-year-old survivor Talaso Wato. According to locals, the suspects behind this heinous act could be remnants of the Oromo Liberation Front (OLF), hostile Borana neighbours or even Ethiopian police officers — a possibility linked to tensions over the OLF militants believed to be harboured in Kenya. The attack occurred at around 9:00 PM. The lorry, a Mitsubishi with registration number KBV 474Y was driven by Ibrahim Jalla who like six other passengers, remains unaccounted for in the aftermath of the brutal assault. This is Biola Adams-Odutayo, who hit and ran over Teejay. *A Night of Tragedy* After a long day at work on March 4th, Teejay went to the Fitness gym in Victoria Island before heading home on his power bike. At about 10:20 PM, as he rode along Ozumba Mbadiwe, Victoria Island, Lagos, he had the right of way when Miss Biola Adams-Odutayo, driving a vehicle with licence number LND 418 JR, merged onto the expressway without considering approaching traffic, crashing into him. Biola and her friend had just left a restaurant by the expressway after dinner. Despite having a driver, she chose to drive herself and asked her driver to follow behind in her friend's car. Though fully equipped with safety gear, Teejay was knocked unconscious and left sprawled on the road. After the crash, Biola Adams-Odutayo refused to step out of her vehicle to check on Teejay. Bystanders and good Samaritans rushed to help, begging her to assist, but she did nothing. When they approached her friend, they were reportedly told: "She doesn't want blood to stain her car." As Teejay lay unconscious but still breathing, Biola—a healthcare professional and Head of Health at a reputable insurance brokering firm—chose to stay on a phone call for over 30 minutes instead of helping save a life. Meanwhile, bystanders desperately tried to get Teejay to a hospital. Many cars refused to stop, but they eventually convinced an Uber driver to assist. Teejay was taken to two different hospitals, but both refused to admit him. Desperate to save his life, the Samaritans returned to the accident scene, placed Teejay in a minibus (korope), and forced Biola to accompany them, hoping her presence would prevent further rejections. She reluctantly followed. The only reason she remained at the scene was because bystanders physically prevented her from leaving. Help Teejay get justices…

Times Square - New York City 🇺🇸 The origin of this place was known as Long Acre Square, but it was renamed Times Square after being located in 1904, at the intersection of 42nd Street, the offices of the New York Times. In 1913, the newspaper’s offices moved to 229 43rd Street, and the building was renamed 1 Times Square in 1961. History of Times Square, at the beginning of the 20th century, Times Square became one of the most important places in New York City, with the construction of theaters, restaurants and luxury and first class hotels. The site began to change in the 30’s where it became a dangerous place with prostitution, crime and drugs, this lasted for more than half a century. History of Times Square During the 1980s, Mayors Ed Koch and David Dinkins began a redevelopment project for Midtown Manhattan that included Times Square. In the 1990s, Mayor Rudolph Giuliani tackled the project to clean up the area with the closure of pornographic theaters, sex shops and the purchase of the nine historic theaters on 42nd Street by the State of New York. Times Square is located between 7th Avenue and Broadway, and 42nd and 47th streets, it is currently the heart of the city in general and of the New York theater district in particular. The entire area is illuminated day and night by large illuminated signs and huge television screens, this has made it famous throughout the world, as well as the descent of the Crystal ball every December 31 from the top of 1 Times Square announcing the new Year. Up to two million people flocked to Times Square to ring in the year 2000 with the lowering of Waterford’s Millennial Crystal Ball, a huge Swarovski crystal ball made specifically for this event. The north end of the square, between 46th and 47th Streets, is known as Duffy Square in honor of Father Francis P. Duffy, chaplain of the New York Regiment of Infantry during World War II. Half-price same-day Broadway show tickets are available at the TKTS Box Office, located in the center of Duffy Square. The ticket offices, renovated in 2008, are covered on its roof with wide steps in the form of a staircase that allow visitors to sit or enjoy a panoramic view. On May 25, 2009, the city council temporarily closed the section of Broadway that runs through Times Square to pedestrian traffic. The experiment was a great success and it has become a permanent pedestrian plaza where the place is more enjoyable with new metal benches, chairs and tables. Times Square has its own police station, its street cleaning company, and its tourist office that has all the information about the city, and it is also a small museum dedicated to this important square. Times Square wouldn’t be recognizable without its amazing illuminated signs. An image that is admired by two million people who pass through this square every day and many millions more in the world who enjoy it through photographs, paintings, cinema and television. Times Square began to fill with large advertisements in 1916, when the City Council encouraged its installation in this part of the city. Since then there are many who have passed through here, some true works of art. In addition, they played an important role in the remodeling of the square during its most decadent period: as a measure of pressure on the city’s rulers, one night their neighbors turned off all the signs for 15 minutes. The measure had excellent results and the negotiation was carried out. Today, a municipal ordinance obliges the buildings in this area to give up their facade for the installation of such advertisements. 🎥 : Times Square in 1932 (Colorized) 🎥© lostintimevid (IG) #archaeohistories

*Long sigh* Here we go again. E-bikes. Or in this case, what are actually electric dirt bikes. Have you seen these two individuals? We know some of you are tired of hearing about this topic, but we’re determined to keep our community safe, and part of that means identifying the people putting others at risk. This video was taken yesterday around midday near Southlands Mall. One of our officers was patrolling the area when he spotted these two doubled up on what appears to be a modified electric dirt bike. These types of vehicles are not street legal in the City of Aurora and are classified as off-highway vehicles, similar to traditional dirt bikes, ATVs and side-by-sides. Only pedal-assist e-bikes are allowed on roadways and they must follow the same traffic laws as bicycles. These two were not. According to officers and security staff, the pair have repeatedly ridden recklessly through the Southlands area over the past several weeks. They’ve blown through stop signs and red lights, refused to stop for law enforcement and used sidewalks as their personal racetrack. As seen in this video, they eventually fled from officers onto a nearby path. One thing that makes this bike stand out: • The driver wears goggles strapped backward around the helmet • The passenger never wears a helmet • The bike is missing a front fender, which is unusual compared to similar bikes we’ve seen. This behavior creates a serious danger for pedestrians, drivers and everyone trying to safely enjoy the area. We wish this was rare, but incidents involving illegal and reckless e-bike riding continue to increase. Another reminder to parents: Know where your kids are riding. Make sure they understand the rules of the road and the risks that come with these vehicles. Ensure they are wearing the proper safety gear too- including a helmet. If you recognize these individuals or have information, please contact our officer via email at [email protected]. Today I had my first demo drive in a Tesla. It was also my first time ever sitting in one. This was the first car I’ve ever sat in the driver’s seat of where I didn’t touch the steering wheel for over 20 miles. Before I even got to the car, the people who had demoed it before me were an older married couple who were absolutely euphoric. They thought it was so cool that the car could drive itself. The Tesla employee told me this happens all the time. People come back from demo drives and tell the next test driver that they’re about to have an amazing experience. Little did I know, I’d end up carrying on the torch to the next couple demoing it after me. There was a ton of construction where I demoed the car, and FSD handled the entire drive extremely well. And yes, it can go through a drive-thru and stop at each window. The only thing I had to do was tap the pedal because it wouldn’t leave on its own, but it was still wild seeing the AI stop perfectly at the second window and wait. There are a million things I could write about why a Tesla feels like a better car and how much more it offers compared to a regular car. But for now, I’ll stick to FSD. There were only two moments that made me a little uneasy. The first was pretty minor. The car slightly hesitated going up a driveway, but quickly made up its mind. The second was more noticeable. I didn’t realize the car was nagging me. Once I touched the steering wheel, nothing happened, so I pulled it right a little harder, then let go. After that, the car turned left and crossed a double yellow on a backroad. (and yes I know you can sue the volume knob) I’m not totally sure if it was trying to pull over or what it was doing. I wanted to see how it would handle the situation, but there were cars coming, so I took over and corrected it. One of the coolest moments was when I thought FSD was glitching because it came to a complete stop in the middle of a busy road. Then I looked around and realized why. On the right side, there was a bicyclist waiting at a yellow crosswalk. The cars behind me didn’t honk, and the Tesla stopping actually incentivized another car in the right lane to stop and let him pass. The car is almost too nice to pedestrians, because 99.999% of humans would’ve blown through that, especially with no flashing light. For 99.9% of the drive, the car navigated confidently and smoothly. It was a real “feel the AGI” moment. Please do not let the media, the general public, or anyone else convince you that this technology is just some kind of auto assist or glorified cruise control. This is undoubtedly getting extremely close to feeling superhuman. You still have to pay attention to the road, but after experiencing it myself, I’d be shocked if HW4 Teslas aren’t unsupervised within the next couple years. The car was extremely smooth. There was no harsh braking, and it even avoided something in the road that I didn’t see. Driving with FSD made me realize I probably wasn’t driving as well as I could be. Hopefully, eventually, everyone’s car can be as mindful as a Tesla. I’ve never seen a brand so far removed from the public’s sentiment. I’m so happy I ordered one.

👀Connecting your coaching eye to your clinical reasoning! Observe the leg cycle of the leg closest to the camera on each drill. Can you see small medium then big elliptical on the right limb and very limited ones on the left? What does limb movement and synergies say about muscle properties and pelvic structure ? Does “technique” matter? Well only if you want to load specific tissues and create protective system tension. We had a really interesting 10.6 sprinter with repeated right side hamstring strains over the past year join our hamstring workshop. UPMC Sports Surgery Clinic 💪🏾Isokinetic tests have him really really strong on both limbs. 🔋Emg told a story of right side dominance and good lateral to medial hamstring balance whilst the left side was far more imbalanced with medial hamstrings dominating action that we assumed the lateral would. 🧐When we went on to the track, we saw similar things. 🚩Notably a reluctance to open up into late swing phase, avoiding long lever eccentric stress on the distal hamstrings…. ON THE LEFT LEG! Well this was noticed across a range of exercises velocities and complexities. 🏃🏾‍♀️ Drills with speed and locomotion, static fast drills as well as static slow drills. 🧐Movement illuminates structural qualities. 🧐Can you spot the difference in these two leg cycles? Could it be that the right side is repeatedly hurt due to the deficit in the left side. After all, if you can’t integrate late swing phase, then you will have poor negative foot speed. You will be able to accelerate…. But all the work will be on the right side the deeper you get into a sprint. Ed Mias Sportsmith

🚨 #BREAKING: Helicopter crashes into Hudson River near NYC. 6 on board—pilot + 5 tourists from Spain (2 adults, 3 kids). At least 3 dead. FDNY performed CPR on a child; survivors in grave condition. Witnesses saw chopper split in two. #NYC #HudsonRiver On April 10, 2025, a tragic helicopter crash occurred in the Hudson River near Lower Manhattan, New York City, prompting a swift response from emergency services and drawing significant attention from media and social platforms. This report provides a comprehensive overview of the incident, synthesizing information from news articles and X posts to ensure a thorough understanding of the event as it unfolded by 4:28 PM EDT. Incident Details and Timeline The crash was reported just before 3:30 p.m., with initial alerts from the New York Police Department (NYPD) and Fire Department of New York (FDNY) indicating a helicopter in distress in the Hudson River. According to ABC News, the incident occurred near Lower Manhattan, while ABC7 New York specified the location as near Jersey City, New Jersey, highlighting the proximity to both states across the river. The crash time aligns with reports of a loud noise heard around 3 p.m., as noted by witnesses in nearby areas. Passenger and Casualty Information Initial reports varied on the number of people on board. Early accounts from ABC7 New York suggested four people were pulled from the water in unknown condition, but later updates clarified the total as six: one pilot and five passengers, comprising two adults and three children, all identified as tourists from Spain. This detail was confirmed by ABC News, which reported at least three fatalities, with survivors in grave condition and transported to a local hospital. The presence of children was particularly noted, with X posts from accounts like ExxAlerts and RedWave_Press mentioning FDNY performing CPR on a child, aligning with the passenger manifest including three children. The discrepancy in early reports, with some X posts like BackfireBros mentioning five people involved and unconfirmed reports of fatalities, was resolved with later news updates confirming six on board and three dead by 4:15 PM, as per a Hoboken Girl article citing ABC7NY. Emergency Response and Witness Accounts Emergency services responded promptly, with the FDNY and NYPD on scene, alongside the Coast Guard, which stopped vessel traffic and established a safety zone to facilitate rescue operations. An X post from NYPDnews at 3:37 PM warned of traffic delays near the West Side Highway and Spring Street due to the crash. Witness accounts, as detailed in ABC News, included reports of hearing "five or six loud noises like gunshots" and seeing the helicopter "fall out of the sky," with pieces detaching before it crashed. Another witness, Sara Jean Raymond, as per ABC7 New York, saw the plane go down and attempted to call 911, expressing shock at the event. X posts like RedWave_Press shared video footage showing propellers detaching and the helicopter splitting in half, corroborating the visual accounts. Contextual Background This incident adds to a history of helicopter crashes in New York City, with ABC7 New York noting at least 32 deaths in such incidents since 1977, the most recent being in 2019 when a pilot was killed hitting a Manhattan skyscraper roof in restricted airspace. The Hudson River has seen previous aviation incidents, such as the 2009 US Airways Flight 1549 ditching, but this crash's proximity to urban areas and involvement of tourists underscores its severity. Developing Story and Future Updates As of 4:28 PM EDT, the story remains developing, with investigations likely to focus on the cause of the crash, potentially involving mechanical failure or pilot error, given witness descriptions of the helicopter splitting. The Citizen App, as mentioned in ABC7 New York, showed footage of emergency response, and media outlets like Lauren Glassberg from ABC7NY were providing live updates from the Hudson River banks in Jersey City. Further details on the survivors' conditions, exact casualty figures, and official statements from authorities are expected, with this report serving as a snapshot based on available information at the time.

But that doesn't solve the Rays' real issues, which are: 1⃣The Tampa CRA voted two weeks ago to delay consideration of a non-binding memorandum of understanding tied to the proposed Tampa Bay Rays stadium project until at least August. 🔗 2⃣Tampa Sports Authority drawing a letter urging county leaders to prioritize the Buccaneers stadium renovation plans over the potential Rays Stadium. 🔗 3⃣Florida potentially doing away with property taxes, which Tampa’s Chief Financial Officer Dennis Rogero Jr said would be “catastrophic” to the Rays stadium deal. But here is why Desantis says a decision is coming to a head in Tampa... 𝐓𝐡𝐞 𝐑𝐚𝐲𝐬 𝐥𝐞𝐚𝐬𝐞 𝐚𝐭 𝐓𝐫𝐨𝐩𝐢𝐜𝐚𝐧𝐚 𝐅𝐢𝐞𝐥𝐝 𝐢𝐬 𝐮𝐩 𝐢𝐧 𝟐𝟎𝟐𝟖, 𝐚𝐧𝐝 𝐭𝐡𝐞𝐲 𝐡𝐚𝐯𝐞 𝐧𝐨𝐭 𝐲𝐞𝐭 𝐫𝐞𝐪𝐮𝐞𝐬𝐭𝐞𝐝 𝐚𝐧 𝐞𝐱𝐭𝐞𝐧𝐬𝐢𝐨𝐧. Next up in the long line of right-wing media figures lifting up Woke Right retards who waste our time, Patrick Bet-David just had on the spectacular retard Curtis Yarvin who said this idiot nonsense: America has always been a Leftist experiment. No it hasn't, except barely from the perspective of European reaction and counter-revolutionary thinking, which is part of what constitutes the European, but not American, Right. (I AM ONCE AGAIN TELLING YOU ALL THAT "LEFT" AND "RIGHT" ARE NOT ADEQUATE TERMS FOR POLITICAL DISCUSSION FOR A LOT OF REASONS, MOSTLY THAT THEY DESCRIBE LOCATIONS IN A PARTICULAR ROOM AT A PARTICULAR TIME AND NOT COHERENT POLITICAL PROGRAMS.) America is actually founded on a tradition completely alien and separate to either the "Left" or the "Right" as it is conceived of in the European mind. It is overwhelmingly something completely different that dispensed wholesale with all the idiotic Continental philosophies the European "Left" and "Right" relied upon. America was not "Leftist" because "Leftist" referred to Jacobinism specifically at the time of the Founding, in line with the thinking of Rousseau's esoteric French Romanticism, whereas America was founded on SCOTTISH COMMON SENSE. America's founders specifically REJECTED Jacobinism and built their system to reject and safeguard against it, but Jacobinism is specifically the thing called "Leftism" in the original context. If you go back to the National Assembly in France, where were the Jacobins? To the left of the king. Hence, "Leftism" for their philosophy and political program. Where were the Scottish Common Sense people? IN SCOTLAND AND AMERICA, doing something completely different and totally awesome, not in the room at all. If you look at what these guys were thinking, it was that Common Sense precedes all these idiotic European philosophical theories, but that the brain-genius philosophers of Europe were so smart that they got the relationship backwards. The Euros thought philosophy precedes common sense, but the Americans knew philosophy must begin with common sense or it's merely idle (and dangerous) speculation. The "Right," if we consider it the side that "resists the Left" (what a poor definition, but that's its definition, isn't it?), in revolutionary France was a motley mix of monarchists, counter-revolutionists, and theocrats. Those would be exactly the people Americans threw out and told to go f- themselves. The "Right," if we must use the term, in America is the side that defends the American tradition, which is based on Common Sense. Most Americans until quite recently were more or less mostly common-sense people in their general orientation to life, hence the long-standing saying that America is "a center-right country." That's what it actually means, outside of these dumb directional terms posing as political orientations. So, this is stupid. Just stupid, but look how much time and energy it takes to deal with the illiterate stupidity of a twelve-second clip pumped to a million viewers who don't have time, interest, background, or inclination to take it apart (because most of them are too common-sense to want to read all this crap but still tribal enough to fall for Yarvin's). Truly, it takes an order of magnitude (or two) more work to take apart bullshit than it does to produce it. Woke, both Right and Left, is such a waste of valuable time and always has been.

I genuinely cannot understand how someone can watch this story and still stand there, looking at two women, and somehow decide that the wrong one is the victim. On one side, you have a girl (Yıldız) who has been mistreated her entire life. Since the moment she was born, she was treated like a sacrifice for a conflict she was never even part of and later we find out that this conflict never even existed. Her right to study was taken from her. She was pushed into a marriage at a very young age just imagine being six, seven, eight years old, living in fear of being tied to someone you don’t even know. She was treated like a servant in her own home, by the very people she thought were her family. And just when she gets close to the happiness she dreamed of, the man she was engaged to shows up with another wife. She gets mistreated by that wife, by his family, and even (unintentionally) by him, because he was trying to run away from his own feelings, and that only caused her more heartbreak. The whole world was literally against her. She fought through all of that, only to find out in the end that everything she suffered for was based on something that wasn’t even real. Her entire life was built on a lie. That she isn’t even part of that family that she has literally no one in this world. Now on the other side… You have a girl (Melek) who, yes, was taken from her biological mother but she was raised by loving parents. She had everything anyone could wish for: education, freedom, a happy childhood, a healthy environment. She lived her life, fell in love, went out, made choices and no one questioned her, no one controlled her. And then what did she do? She found out that her man was engaged to another woman before marrying her (and even saw him marry her) and instead of holding on to her dignity, she chose to stay, to fight for a man who lied to her, to hold onto a marriage he tried to end multiple times. She used her unborn child to keep him tied to her. She lied constantly, and her excuse was that she was “protecting her marriage” a marriage that was already broken from the moment Serhat removed that ring at the airport in episode one. She tried to hand Yıldız (a woman who had already suffered enough) over to dangerous people. Then she found out the truth about her own birth (that her father ra*ped her mother.)And still no empathy. No moment of humanity toward her own mother. All she cared about was herself. And even though none of this had anything to do with Yıldız, she still found a way to blame it on her. Instead of holding her father accountable, she went and made a deal with him to get rid of Yıldız. She literally made a deal with the devil just to hurt Yıldız one more time. And after all of that… you want me to feel sorry for her? You want me to call her a victim? I honestly cannot believe we are living on the same planet with people who see this and still say, “she’s the victim.” Not morally. Not logically. Not emotionally. There is no world where this makes sense. It’s like watching someone clearly cause harm, and still calling them the victim and actually BELIEVING it. #HalefKöklerinÇağrısı

Zarar Wazir, a resident of Paryat in Razmak, North Waziristan, had recently completed his Hifz when he was approached by associates of Commander Abu Bakar, also known as Mohsin, who tried to recruit him into their group. The young boy eventually showed interest and began visiting their temporary hideout in the Mossaki area. During this time, the commander and senior militants reportedly exploited him and recorded compromising material to use as leverage in case he tried to leave their activities. Meanwhile, his parents and relatives were desperately searching for their missing son. Some local shepherds informed them that the boy had been lured and taken by militants belonging to Abu Bakar’s group in the Mossaki (JangJal) forests. The family went there several times and pleaded for his release, but their requests were rejected. They were even told that their son would soon attain “72 hoors” and that the family would also be rewarded with paradise for his sacrifice. When pressure started building for the boy’s release, the militants reportedly handed him over to another group. According to the account, he was sold to the HGB operations head, Commander Talwar Waziristani, for Rs. 500,000. Talwar then placed the boy under the supervision of his local area commander, Irshad Himati. Irshad and his associates allegedly prepared a Mazda truck packed with explosive drums and acid reportedly supplied by an Afghan militant named Mubariz Afghani to carry out a high-impact suicide attack. Before the attack, the boy was shown the intended target: the Chashmai check post near Miranshah in North Waziristan, where security forces were stationed. Information about a possible suicide attack had already been circulated across Miranshah, and security forces were on high alert. However, authorities did not have details about the boy or the specific vehicle. On the day of the incident, the truck approached the Chashmai Bridge check post on the main Bannu–Miranshah road. Only two security personnel were present at the post, and they opened fire as the truck moved closer. In panic, the boy detonated the explosives before reaching the HESCO barriers. The blast killed two civilians and left 18 others critically injured, while no security personnel lost their lives due to the prior alert. Most of the casualties occurred among passengers traveling in a Hiace coach and other vehicles that were passing by at the time of the explosion. Among the injured and affected were six people from his own village, Paryat Dirdoni, while the rest were from other areas of North Waziristan. This tragic incident illustrates how innocent lives, including that of a young boy, were manipulated and sacrificed in the name of militancy. (Video GL 32°47'10.25"N 69°53'16.60"E )

Guess who just turned 5? :) Tom has been with me for the past five years. This means he has survived with me two devastating Israeli wars on Gaza in 2021, the current one (so far, of course), and many other—less devastating—escalations and assaults. Since October 2023, he has moved with me between three shelters. There have been many days and weeks when I felt I was in a dilemma since I couldn’t find anything to feed him, especially during the first months of Israel’s genocide in Gaza. I shared with him my portion of the bread we managed to find and saved him some clean water when we used to count the sips of water we could have each day. The once unsociable cat, who hated strangers, was unable to understand why he was suddenly snatched from his calm home and taken to a shelter with around 70 strangers, including children, whose noise and energy left him anxious and paranoid all the time. The once-spoiled cat, who didn’t settle for less than chicken breast and fancy wet and dry cat food and used to turn his back to me whenever I tried to feed him less fancy food, had to eat bread wetted with water and white rice leftovers when he starved and realized this wasn’t another attempt from me to make him eat what I wanted. Despite all of this, I can’t help but feel ashamed to say that Tom was so privileged compared to the hundreds of Palestinians, especially children and elderly people, who either starved to death or died due to acute malnutrition and severe vitamin and iron deficiencies caused by Israel’s systematic starvation of the population in Gaza. I feel ashamed of myself when I give Tom half of my loaf of bread and then go to work to document another case where a mother helplessly watched her child starve to death, not because she didn’t have the money to buy him food, but because there was literally no food to buy as Israel imposed a deadly blockade on northern Gaza to force the population to the south. What I’m not ashamed to admit, however, is that I now eat the same food Tom once rejected for being “poor quality.” Before the war, I’ve never bought canned luncheon meat for him, knowing how harmful it could be for cats. But for the past year, that same canned food, part of international aid, which most of the time is low quality food and barely edible, has sustained us both. These days, Tom and I share the same can of luncheon meat. But after all, I’m proud of Tom now more than ever, the spoiled cat who has transformed from a loner into a social butterfly, now making friends with all the stray cats around the shelter :) I can’t wait for the day I’ll put him in his box for the last time and head north… HOME

The Iceman mummy, nicknamed Ötzi, was discovered in 1991 amidst sheets of melting ice on the Tisenjoch pass of the Similaun glacier in the Tyrolean Alps. He was found on the border between Italy and Austria, at an altitude of 3200m above sea level. He is a well-preserved male human corpse, dark in color, and dates to the early Copper Age, indicating he is more than 5,000 years old (3250 BC). His belongings, scattered around the body, included a bow and quiver with arrows, a complete copper-bladed axe, a flint dagger with a wicker sheath, two birch wood vessels clad with maple leaves, remnants of a backpack, a leather pouch with small objects, fur and leather garments, shoes, and other minor artifacts. When scientists realized the antiquity of the find, the media response was overwhelming and Ötzi captivated audiences far and wide. Both scholars and the general public gravitated to the so-called disaster theory in which Ötzi had climbed the slopes to the Tisenjoch. On the way or on the pass, he was mortally wounded in an armed attack. With an arrow deeply sunk in his left shoulder, he collapsed in solitude on the mountaintop, bleeding to death. His body would have been rapidly dried by a strong, warm wind, and was soon covered by frozen snow. No signs of scavenging activity were visible on the body, and all the equipment was left untouched. Such a dramatic and even romantic reconstruction was simple to communicate and visualize. In the following years, after Ötzi was eventually put on exhibit at the Bozen Museum in Italy, the mummy became a popular tourist attraction and source of revenue. For these and other reasons, it was hard to question the original reconstruction of events surrounding the Iceman’s death. Even after careful excavations in 1992, the complete crime scene findspot was not reconstructed. After 20 years, a detailed topographic map of more than 400 artifacts found at the site and the analysis of their distribution with computer-aided simulations revealed that body and objects had moved downslope with the ice flow, but originally came from a spot measuring about 2 x 1 meters (a little more than 6 feet x 3 feet). In 2010, a study was published suggesting that the mummy might owe its exceptional preservation to a proper burial and the equipment might not be a mountain survival kit, but rather what was needed for a yet more arduous trip—the voyage to the otherworld. Far from simply a casual killing, Ötzi opened a crucial window on the burial rituals and political strategies of a moment in European prehistory. These findings paved the way for a comprehensive alternative interpretation. Pollen analysis proves that Ötzi died in early spring, when the mountains were probably still snow-covered; the body was likely left to rest for a few months in a controlled open-air environment, thus desiccating the corpse. When the pass became accessible, Ötzi may have been formally buried on the mountain peak to signal the political control of the tribe over its territory. Dug into snow and ice, the grave contents were partially dispersed by ice flows, until recent climatic fluctuation revealed the grave’s contents. This interpretation accounts for many anomalies, such as unexplained mode of preservation of the body, unfinished arrows, shoes unsuitable for climbing, and the cumbersome equipment he supposedly carried. This new interpretation is informed by “social theory” and is opposed by Ötzi’s original research group, which still favors the “disaster theory.” #archaeohistories

When the Road Starts to Sway: A Story of Alcohol and the Cerebellum When Mr. Raju (name changed) walked into my clinic, he did so cautiously; each step measured, each turn deliberate. At 50, he was still in the prime of his working life in Maharashtra, but for the past six months, walking had become an act of constant vigilance. Over the last two months, it had worsened noticeably. He described a strange sense of imbalance. “Doctor, I feel like I’m swaying… sometimes to the right, sometimes to the left,” he said. He had not collapsed dramatically, but the fear of falling had quietly reshaped his life. He walked slowly, avoided crowded places, and had almost stopped going outdoors unless absolutely necessary. There was no vertigo, no double vision, no weakness of limbs. But one detail stood out during history-taking- Long-standing alcohol consumption. He estimated it at around 90 ml daily. His relatives, seated quietly beside him, exchanged glances. They felt the amount was probably much more and had been so for years. On examination, the clues came together. His gait was broad-based and unsteady, with a tendency to veer sideways. Simple bedside tests showed poor coordination. The rest of his neurological examination was relatively unremarkable, pointing clearly toward one part of the brain-the cerebellum, the body’s master coordinator. An MRI of the brain confirmed the suspicion. The cerebellum showed clear signs of atrophy-shrinkage that had developed silently over time. For Mr. Raju, the scan was sobering. Until then, alcohol had been a routine part of life, never something he associated with neurological disease. He had expected liver problems, perhaps. Not this. The Silent Target: How Alcohol Damages the Cerebellum Chronic alcohol use has a particular predilection for the cerebellum, especially the midline structure called the vermis, which is crucial for balance and walking. Alcohol-related cerebellar damage occurs through multiple mechanisms: 1. Direct neurotoxicity Alcohol and its metabolites are toxic to cerebellar Purkinje cells-neurons essential for smooth, coordinated movement. 2. Nutritional deficiency (especially thiamine) Chronic alcohol consumption often leads to vitamin B1 (thiamine) deficiency, further injuring cerebellar neurons. 3. Oxidative stress and inflammation Long-term alcohol exposure promotes neuronal damage through oxidative injury and impaired neuronal repair mechanisms. Over years, this damage leads to irreversible neuronal loss, visible on MRI as cerebellar atrophy. ✅What Happens If He Quits Now? The most important message for patients like Mr. Raju is this: Stopping alcohol matters at any stage. 1. Progression can be halted: Continued drinking almost always worsens ataxia. Abstinence can stop further damage. 2. Partial improvement is possible: While lost neurons do not regenerate, balance and coordination may improve modestly over months due to brain adaptation and physiotherapy. 3. Function can stabilize: Many patients regain confidence in walking and daily activities with sustained abstinence, nutritional correction, and rehabilitation. 🔴However, if alcohol use continues, the ataxia typically progresses, increasing the risk of falls, fractures, loss of independence, and disability. ▶️The Take-Home Message Alcohol-related cerebellar degeneration is a slow, silent, and often overlooked neurological consequence of chronic drinking. It does not announce itself dramatically; it creeps in as subtle imbalance, cautious walking, and quiet fear of falling. For patients, families, and clinicians alike, recognizing this condition early and acting decisively can make the difference between stability and steady decline. Sometimes, the most powerful treatment is not a pill or a procedure, but a decision: to stop. Dr Sudhir Kumar Neurologist, Hyderabad
