If this was actually working you’d see them on every ship.

Such innovation. Who could have imagined ships powered by wind? Don’t see many repeat customers with these projects as cool as they might look. People abandon wind for coal as soon as they could get it. Despite the wind being free. @FleetzeroHQ

Anything that makes global trade a bit less dependent on oil prices gets my attention. Shipping costs hit everyone eventually.

Maintenance is terrible for the crew, I believe. This system is working for the first two years; after that, it is probably scrap due to rust and poor material quality.

Wow!! Ships powered by the WIND?? This is revolutionary! Never been done before! 😄😂🤣

notice how the videos are not of actual cargo ships... at least not standard container ships. clearly its not practical, or they would all be using it

If I recall correctly, this was going to be the next big thing back in the 70s or 80s. It came on stage right with trumpets and fanfare and exited stage left without a word. $10 to a doughnut it will be the same this time.

Any reduction in burning highly polluting bunker fuel is a bonus!

It helps with fuel efficiency. No one is stupid enough to rely on the wind for freight delivery

It’s a publicity stunt. very little energy is generated by the sales to move a ship that size

Smells like green scam BS. What is the cost of these units - likely a government-subsidized fuck ton more than the offset on marine-grade diesel! (Not to mention the additional weight and maintenance) Most of these scams seem to be really targeted at catching tax dollars.

These are expensive to install and maintain withblots of moving parts. Without incentives such as carbon credits and preferential chartering, they would fail due to a poor ROI.

Duh! No need for studies and data! People discovered the whole glove with wind-propelled ships!

A ship is not maintained by technology alone; it is maintained by seafarers. With only 21 crew members, where is the manpower for the maintenance, watchkeeping, emergencies and heavy-weather operations?

They should use more renewable materials in their construction, like wood, hemp, and cotton/canvas.

Why are there no solar panels on top of these massive “sails” ?

That is my take as a seafarer: if the manpower and maintenance burden don't add up, the concept simply won't work—at least not reliably in real-world ocean operations.

From my experience at sea, I have serious doubts about the practicality of such ships. The concept may look impressive on paper, but ships ultimately have to survive the realities of the ocean.

When I was a cadet, I saw a few sailing ships along the Japanese coast. My senior officers told me, “These are the ships of the future.” But before I even completed my cadetship, those ships had virtually disappeared from the sea—perhaps leaving their owners with enormous losses.
