The problem with this is that scientist are human. They are capable of evil to the same degree everyone else is. So scientist can't be trusted either. Has been proven over and over again. Carl wants to separate science to out is something special. They are not. Been aware of people who won't admit it.

“Science is more than a body of knowledge; it is a way of thinking, a way of skeptically interrogating the universe with a fine understanding of human fallibility.”

So are all all the great disciplines of learning. Beware of arrogance. It will kill you.

Science is the best method we have come up with so far. It is a method that admits its own fallibility, is falsifiable, and demands strong evidence and rigor. It is the only method that has driven the exponential progress of humanity over the last four centuries - from horse carts to lunar rovers. And in the 21st century, it surrounds us in every aspect of life. What Carl emphasizes in the video is that, because science now shapes so much of our world, everyone must have a basic understanding of scientific thinking. This is necessary not only to keep political and institutional authorities in check, but also to hold scientists accountable. As you said, they are human too. If the public remains uneducated, they risk believing whatever a charlatan makes them believe, moving us further away from the truth.

This is all highly subjective opinion, nothing more. You're entitled to your opinion. But it's only that. Smart people have all kinds of opinions. When anyone insists that their opinion trumps all other others, it demands rejection. For example, science without ethics leads to evil. Scientist should never claim the upper hand in ethics by reason of science. Ethics takes us far beyond science.

You keep reframing my point into something I never claimed. I never said scientists are above ethics. I said science is a method, defined by falsifiability, evidence, and self-correction. Calling that “just an opinion” while presenting your own opinion as fact is bias. Saying that “scientists are human” does not undermine science; it reinforces why the public must understand it in order to hold both scientists and politicians accountable. And yes, science does not replace ethics. At least not yet, I agree on that. And it probably will not anytime in the near future. So we definitely need ethical guidance in scientific practices.

Ironically, he missed the biggest part of the equation, which is that people need a moral compass.

He was precient... especially about the largest democracies of the world ... We see what is happening there... exactly what Carl Sagan described!

It's nice to talk about education and rights, but even Jefferson was honest enough to acknowledge from where rights derive and by Who's authority. Carl's worldview greatly undercuts that as well as his own argument.
