Carlito’s Way is the perfect demonstration of Brian De Palma’s artistry as a director. You can touch, feel, taste a De Palma film. I don’t love when most directors move the camera- but that doesn’t apply to De Palma. He’s entrusted with everything. I don’t question his decisions.

Al Pacino & Viggo Mortensen are both wildly unpredictable actors & the fact they were screen partners here in Carlito’s Way is unforgettable. Mix in some vintage Brian De Palma direction & you’re really cooking with oil. This film always hits the spot & Pacino shines brightest.

Scarface & I apologize to no one for choosing this over The Godfather or other Pacino classics. The question is- my personal favorite. And it’s either this or Carlito’s Way. Something about Pacino’s collaborations with De Palma always invigorate me. Scarface is as good as it gets
