the split screen at the prom is the cruel part. the one thing that should land all at once, and he makes you watch it arrive in pieces.

Carrie is a top tier Brian De Palma film that earned Sissy Spacek an Oscar nomination back in 1977. De Palma’s lighting, visuals, and sound all combine for exceptional piece of filmmaking that stands the test of time. Spacek is young in this film but she couldn’t be better. When I think De Palma, I think Carrie.

Brian De Palma is one of the most overlooked & underrated directors in Cinema history. This man is a fucking genius. If you disagree, you’re wrong. If you can’t see it, you’re blind. If you don’t understand it, you’re obtuse. De Palma helped shape a generation of filmmakers. Need proof? De Palma’s 1976 thriller Carrie, which is worth revisiting now more than ever considering it’s October. Also consider that Mike Flanagan is releasing Carrie as an 8-episode miniseries tomorrow over on Prime Video. Flanagan is reimagining Stephen King’s 1974 debut novel - a novel that propelled De Palma to incredible heights when he first adapted it back in 1976. I’m curious what Flanagan has to say simply because I love this story. But all of which circles back to my original point: De Palma. He sort of perfected Carrie. Is there anywhere to go at this point but down?

"I liked 'The Tenant' (1976) because, I mean, Polanski throws himself out the window, commits su!c!de, and then crawls up and does it again. Fabulous." --- Brian De Palma
