NASCAR is still an amazing sport today. I’m a diehard fan who doesn’t miss a race. However because of that you want the sport to be the best it can be. And while it still isn’t what it used to be it’s still pretty amazing today.

Hmm. As some one who became a fan in the early 80s. I encourage people to watch a season through from back then. Not highlights, not specific races. The whole race, all of them. I loved it, there were some great ones. There were also a good number that ended with half the field in the garage and 3 cars on the lead lap that many fans would be RAGING about ifnthey happened today.

2014 was the last great season of racing. 2015 was still ok. 2016-2026 has been a nightmare due to low horsepower and stage racing.mainly stage racing.

Bringing the X-Pipes back alone would fill more seats and draw in more viewers. Such a legendary sound from that era!

My god, that engine sound. Easily up there with the F1 V10’s.

He’s right. NASCAR is one of few examples where it was better when the patients were running the asylum. NASCAR didn’t tell Earnhardt, Petty, or Gordon what to do, or what tire GoodYear was going with or aero pkg, they asked what can we do to grow? High HP, & let em Drive!

It was great back then, coming from a guy who saw it from mid 70’s to today in person and as a huge fan. However, I’m the guy who thinks it’s also great today. The speedway racing you are showing shows the incredible speeds they ran in 90’s.

@H4rvickismo29 i’ve been watching since i was a toddler. this is my 21st season as a fan, i have very close friends i know that i’ve watched nascar for longer than they’ve been alive 😭😭 getting back to the 2000s has been a core part of my fandom since 2015. i’ve thought about it for soo long

I love how those engines sound

Go back to the 70’s when cars at Daytona and Talladega could run and pass by themselves.

But isn’t this all just cyclical? In the early 2000’s we would bitch about “how much better the racing was 20 years ago! This sucks now!” And now here people are waxing nostalgic about the early 2000’s races “being so much better than now!” 🤷🏻♂️

Been watching since I was a little guy in the 70’s……..I miss NASCAR before stages and play offs……..

As Cher said, “If I Could Turn Back Time”—but NASCAR isn’t going back to the ’90s. Sponsors and corporations are tighter now, but Amazon Prime’s coverage has been outstanding, and the two races I attended this year were packed. The sport is different, not dead—and I’m still along

The racing definitely isn’t what it used to be. The broadcasts are decent, they have some hiccups but that’s live tv it can happen. I don’t like the new running order graphic, bring back the old crawl at the top with real time updates. Fix the racing though please

How was the actual racing better? This is a clip from Talledega. It’s the same today but safer. The broadcast was better because you had a once in a lifetime crew of Darryl Waltrip, Mike Joy and Larry McReynolds, whose personalities and voices and knowledge all added up to magic in the booth. But watch the actual races. The racing today is at least as good if not better.

The stages and the car of tomorrow ruined NASCAR. It was about endurance, pit crews, and real individual teams & shops. Hendrick was the best, coming from a Tony Stewart fan.

Cleet and George would be a step in the right direction.

I remember listening to Talladega races on MRN and they’d mention Casey Mears or Mike Wallace, or someone like that in the top 5 on their rundowns and it would feel like the coolest thing. Now, it feels fake, because it is due to the fuel saving nonsense.

Also you’re seeing packs of cars and/or multiple in one shot. They aren’t zoomed into the cockpit for 90% of the race. You can see runs building. People passing. Now your average race you might see 1 full car in frame half the time.

The other thing is drivers can’t have personalities because of fear of losing sponsors. Back in the day almost everyone on that damn track would start a fight if needed or have choice words. Now you barely get any of that to draw viewers in.

Lots of things used to be "better", depending on how you define the word - and therein lies the problem: what constitutes "better"?

I don't know the finances of NASCAR but are some of these rules to help teams keep costs down. Because you never hear we love this car, this package.

Name one because I'm new to Nascar. This is only my second year watching. But I only get the broadcast one. No cable

X pipes need to be mandatory… period!!

The cars had to change for safety at SS

FIFA

You’re absolutely correct. But even like that Nascar and Indycar still the best motorsports in the world because FIA ruined theirs, so i think they’re free to mess around i guess…

The sound of those engines….

@LsTdiecast Love that sound

He should make the NASCAR Bananas and bring entertainment back to the sport.

Do you hear those engines? That's what a racing engine sounds like 👍

Go back to basic rules and run what you brung, bought from dealer, and upgraded.

Most boring racing there is. Pole sitter leads most of the race maybe a few front runners get up there eventually. Super boring Nothing like when sprint cars used to use the handicap system Cars passing cars from start to finish couldn’t even keep track there was so much passing

They even sound faster!
