Caste census must be done in Noida channels offices too which will then explain why anchors sneer and interrupt those raising issues pertaining to OBCs, Dalits and minorities. Very well handled Rajkumar Bhati

Anjana is way too arrogant & was put in her place in a refined way by Bhati ji. He came prepared for the debate with facts & Anjana's usual style of challenging without listening got exposed. What Bhati ji was trying to explain in terms of caste supremacy she demonstrated in the studio

@rajkumarbhatisp Caste census should also be conducted among the "Khan Market" journalists who are receiving flats and other benefits, as the majority of them seem to be either Thakurs or Brahmins.

@rajkumarbhatisp I would like a caste census among the corrupt government officials, politicians and citizens in Bharat. Let's start with those who do not reveal their caste.

We've been advocating for a Caste Census for some time. The Modi government had previously opposed it, citing reasons we're unclear about. Now, they've suddenly decided to move forward. We wholeheartedly welcome this decision but demand a clear implementation timeline. Telangana serves as a model state for caste census. Having successfully conducted a comprehensive caste census in Telangana, we suggest the national census incorporate some of its effective approaches. We've discussed two other key issues. Firstly, the 50% cap on reservations, which is increasingly becoming an impediment to development, progress and the advancement of backward castes, Dalits, and Adivasis. We advocate for eliminating this barrier. Having successfully pressured the government to conduct a caste census, we'll continue to push for removing the 50% cap. Additionally, we demand the implementation of Article 15(5), which pertains to reservations in private educational institutions—a law that already exists. We urge the government to implement it promptly. I think every Congress member, worker, and every single person who has fought for the caste census—and there are millions of people, activists from the backward communities, Dalits, and Adivasis—I am very proud of what you have done. This would not be possible without the effort and the hard work that you have done. It has been a sustained campaign that we have run, and I am very proud of every single person who has helped us in this campaign. : LoP Shri Rahul Gandhi

The BJP withdrew its support to the VP Singh government on the Mandal Commission in August 1991, and they started the Kamandal agitation to counter the Mandal agitation. Let's not get into this history. I can also go into the history of how the RSS opposed the Constitution of India beginning in November 1949; how Yogi Adityanath has opposed reservations; and how RSS leaders, including Mohan Bhagwat, have opposed reservations. So let's keep history aside. According to the Constitution of India, the Seventh Schedule, the census is the responsibility of the central government. If the centre does not want to carry out the census, there is no alternative left for states except to do caste surveys. Thus, various states have done caste surveys, including Telangana, Karnataka and Bihar. The Prime Minister has consistently opposed the caste census. On 28 April 2024, he called all those wanting a caste census "urban naxals". He even called the Congress party the same. They filed an affidavit in the Supreme Court on 21 September 2021, saying that they were against a caste census and had no intention of carrying out one. Today's gazette notification says only the census will be done in late October of 2026 in Jammu and Kashmir, Uttarakhand and Himachal Pradesh, and for the rest of the country, it will be done in March 2027. It does not talk of the word "caste census". So my question is: has the Prime Minister changed his mind again? Why is there no mention of the caste census? Secondly, the budget allocation needed would be ₹9,000 - ₹10,000 crores to carry out a normal census—not the caste census. The total allocation for the census commission this year is only ₹575 crores. So, where is the additional money? When are the allocations going to be made? The Indian National Congress wants the Telangana model to be adopted at the national level. In Telangana, it's not just the caste enumeration that's been done—it also includes getting information on the socio-economic status. All this is missing in this notification by the government. To all those who are saying that Congress has a lot to answer for, the First Amendment to the Constitution in 1951 introduced Article 15(4), which protected reservations for SCs and STs. This amendment was then opposed by Syama Prasad Mukherjee ji, the founder of the Jana Sangh. : Congress General Secretary (Communications) Shri Jairam Ramesh

#WATCH | Saharanpur | On Centre's decision to conduct caste census, Aazad Samaj Party—Kanshi Ram, Chandra Shekhar Azad says, "The Azad Samaj Party has consistently raised this demand for a long time. On the 3rd of February, during the Lok Sabha session, I began by raising the issue of the caste census. Even when we were in Delhi in 2024, during a major movement held at Indira Gandhi Stadium, our first demand was for the caste census... When we conducted the review program across 18 circles, starting with Saharanpur, our first demand was the same. We understand the importance of the caste census, and I believe that if a caste census is conducted, we will get valuable data, especially regarding the backward classes. Even the general category will get clarity about the distribution of resources—how much education people have, who owns how much land, who has jobs, etc... However, the government has only talked about it and not set any deadline for implementation. Many in our party believe this is being discussed now because of the Bihar elections, since Nitish ji has already conducted a caste census in Bihar... I believe only after the caste census is actually conducted will we be able to say more. Nothing has been finalized yet—what topics will be included, when it will start, when it will end—all of this is still undecided... I believe only after the caste census is actually conducted will we be able to say more. Nothing has been finalized yet—what topics will be included, when it will start, when it will end—all of this is still undecided... Also, let me clarify that after 1931, no caste census has been properly conducted. The last real caste census was done under the British government... Since then, no caste census has been conducted—neither for backward classes nor for the general category. Until such a census is done, many things will remain unclear... we worry the current government might also reverse its stand after the Bihar elections and say they won’t conduct it..." (30/04)
