Sarah, Cheeto’s owner, recalls that from the very first moment she met him, she was drawn to the tiny orange ball of fur. Cheeto has always been exceptionally friendly with other cats. Any neighborhood cat walking by seems to head straight toward him. But no one expected that this friendliness would extend to the residents of the nearby woods. At first, when Sarah saw the deer appearing right by the fence, she felt worried. She feared they might hurt Cheeto. Yet Cheeto remained surprisingly calm. And nature has responded in its own unique way. I wonder how many times we miss beautiful connections simply because of our assumptions about difference. Meanwhile, Cheeto and the deer have crossed every barrier in the most natural way imaginable. They need no language and no complicated reasons. A peaceful presence is enough to become friends.
