Our cat used to sleep on the ledge above the gas fire. Her paw used to slip down in front of the fire and get very hot. She would then shake it and put it by her side, Then it would fall down again. This would go on for hours.

An obligate carnivore that retained every last predatory instinct, and secured from a species ten times its size free shelter, food and medical care, with no measurable return. The only terrestrial animal that domesticated its host.
