Impartiality is the bedrock Fenlon also wrote that the Journalistic Standards and Practices “can and will evolve” after staff complained impartiality rules were distorting coverage of anti-Black racism. CBC climate journalism took sides and remains “a top priority.” CBC “does not itself designate” groups as terrorists. And in promotional videos he tells Canadians they never have to wonder what is real or fake if it comes from CBC News The pattern is not subtle. When the political project aligned with CBC newsroom’s priors, coverage treated process as progress. When the same majority now accelerates project reviews, creates “regions of national interest,” shortens consultations, and tightens federal labour rules so strikes can be ended for economic impact, the tone flips to alarm. The activists who were useful on the way up are suddenly the ones being “gaslit” Canadians can see the sequence. They watched the cheering. They watched the majority assembled.
