Their website accessibility for disabled persons to make sure that people could get access to records from the courts. KOMO News’ Michelle Esteban spoke to Washington State Auditor Pat McCarthy about oversight of the DCYF and the organization’s funding. She said auditors lacked key data for four years, limiting the organization’s oversight. She said there has been no evidence of fraud so far, and no active investigations, but results are still pending. McCarthy said under new state leadership, her team was able to get that data, and it will be part of the organization’s annual audit happening right now – and those results are expected in the next few months.

There is a reason the fight over the audit law has dragged on for over a year, despite being approved by 72% of voters. The original ballot question was clear and it passed overwhelmingly. Massachusetts voters did not ask for a negotiated audit, a limited review, or for the Legislature to define its own terms. The people approved an independent audit of the Legislature. Now, the response from Beacon Hill is a bill that: • Narrows the scope of what can be examined • Allows the Legislature to decide what records will be provided • Prevents courts from stepping in when disputes arise Who has ever heard of an independent audit where the entity being audited gets to decide what can be investigated? At the same time, lawmakers are presenting this as a “transparency package.” But even they acknowledge that many of the “new” public records provisions simply codify documents that are already available today. So what is actually changing? The audit. And that is exactly where the restrictions are being added. As Auditor Diana DiZoglio warns in this clip, this is not an expansion of transparency. It is a restructuring of a voter mandate into something Beacon Hill can define, limit, and control. For the people of our state, the core question is straightforward: Should the Legislature be able to redefine a law that 72% of voters already passed when it becomes inconvenient?

The WA state auditor got into a heated argument with a journalist during an interview after refusing to take any sort of interest in flagged daycare fraud. From unDivided's Brandi Kruse: "Anybody should be able to watch that exchange and have some very serious concerns about whether the auditor's office even cares." They have not been able to pass their audit cleanly since tax credits were introduced in 2003/04 due to material levels of fraud and error. Look at the state of our public sector: ❌ HMRC has failed audit for 20+ years ❌ DWP has failed audit for 37 years ❌ The Cabinet Office can’t provide evidence for £7 BILLION of spending. These are the institutions that take your money, spend your money and tell you there isn’t enough of it. If any normal organisation failed its audit year after year, there would be consequences. In government, it just carries on. And then they tell you taxes need to go up.
