Centennial high school graduation Williamson County, Franklin, Tennessee. Completely unacceptable those kids worked hard to graduate. This was a humiliating experience.

So they don't have a gym, auditorium or hell even a lunchroom they could have moved to? "Grab your chair and c'mon!" ~What the Principal should have said

That’s ridiculous. Either change the location to indoors or reschedule.

I hope parents are asking who was in charge of this mess and what were they thinking? These kids deserve a do over; how disrespectful can you be to families and students who worked hard

The students deserved better than this. They worked hard to get to that day. And it should have been a day with fond memories.

Clearly, someone should have a) checked the forecast a few days in advance and d b.) had a BACK-UP plan in place there...just in case. Somone is likely getting fired.

@peaceinthefield Was their weather contingency plan to "pray the rain away"?

No rain date for an outdoor event is just poor planning.

Were they not even allowed umbrellas? I would think they could have either rescheduled or split the graduates into smaller groups and put them inside in staggered ceremonies so they could all stay dry and still have all their guests attend. Holding it in the downpour like that just seems cruel.

Like they couldn't watch the news, see the weather, and have a contingency plan?

@FreedomTruthJoy Superintendent needs to be replaced. There's no excuse for this. 🤨

You have to wonder about the level of education those kids received if they don't have enough sense to get out of the rain.

McDonald’s will give them a dry uniform on their first day of work. Tennessee ranked poorly in education and health and safety, placing at No. 43 in both categories. In fact, the study found that Tennessee is among the states with the highest crime rates. $7.25/hour minimum wage.

I was shocked at the amount of graduating students left in the rain this year. In my town the gym and auditorium sits directly across the street. Instead of relocating inside, when the thunder started they paused it, had everyone in their cars. This was so sad.

When I had my high school graduation which took place out on the football field like them, they specifically stated if there was rain, they would move it to the auditorium. I don't understand why they couldn't have done that.

@JaxHarley5 Having lived in this county this is appalling. Williamson county is one of the most wealthy counties in Tennessee, that weather conditions were not factored into graduation ceremonies without an alternative was unacceptable

The lesson should be not to be a sheep, they didn’t have to participate. I get it but they should know not to follow the masses. They could have banded together and stood up for themselves. It’s my opinion that should be the take away.

That they couldn’t bring it inside is stupid, but then these people brought you Marsha Blackburn and Bill Hagerty.

It's a good meme to how our leaders treat young Americans and the abysmal job market they are about to enter woefully under trained for the AI take over

No indoor auditorium to have it in? You know, in case it rains?

So not just one school's graduates were forced to have their graduation in a torrential downpour but 2 schools, Centennial high and Franklin High School

Ahahahh Blaming a high school for the weather? What's next? Blame teachers for your kid being addicted to their electronic devices? Upset that teachers aren't raising YOUR child? LOL

Another example of the disdain TN has for public education. These kids worked hard & deserved an appropriate graduation ceremony celebrating their accomplishments not sitting on metal chairs out in the open in a rainstorm. Doesn't this school have a gym? Also, congrats grads.

My grandson's college graduation ceremony was canceled due to lightning strikes and possible tornadoes. This meant that no ceremony would be rescheduled. They would never have the thrill of walking on stage to accept the diploma they so rightly earned after four (4) years of hard work.

So mad at the rain, how dare the rain do this.

The high schools I know in Illinois ALWAYS have a back-up plan, in case of rain. Pity Franklin, Tennessee didn't but that IS the "bass-ackward" way of the South, yee-HAW!!!

Tennessee ranks 39th in quality of education in America. Maybe @MarshaBlackburn & the rest of State government should concentrate on that idiocy instead of removing black Democrats from committees. It wasn't Einstein leading this debacle.

This school should ALWAYS HAVE AN ALTERNATIVE PLACE PLANNED INCASE OF WEATHER! Everyone saying the kids didn’t have the brains…..who should we be saying have NO BRAINS?? Possibly the ADMINISTRATION?

"Some say it's a backwards place, narrow minds on a narrow wage" Kenny Chesney nailed his summation of Tennessee perfectly.

umm .no auditorium??

Getting wet isn't even the worst of it. They had them out there on metal chairs and ramps while lightning was hitting nearby. I guess some people don't get science.

I would have left It's just a diploma and nowadays a high school diploma is not really that much most of them can't read at grade level

@RANDOLPHHAYES4 Perfect ending to those who went to school during Covid. We as adults need to do better for the kids. Omg.

I think the principal must hate the children to put them through that . Completely unnecessary
