susquehanna traded 2.7 billion options contracts in 2023. more than the entire US options industry traded in all of 2007. 3,200 people. 17 offices. estimated $7.2 billion in revenue. trading their own capital. they just put out a video of their mathematicians explaining how they actually think about markets. what they said: "finding patterns is easy. understanding that those patterns reflect something fundamental about data is challenging." on machine learning: "these black boxes find patterns, they make predictions. but these predictions are based in the data that they see, and not in the assumptions that may be true about the world." on AI: "AI itself is a superpower. the challenge is to develop new methodology to insert theory and assumption into the system." but the part that got me was the first twenty seconds. "markets are constantly generating information. people react to that information, they react to each other, and they adjust their behavior." "as a result, the signal is going to be weak. the noise is going to be enormous, and whatever patterns you're going to find might not persist for very long." one of the largest options market makers on earth saying, in their own video, that signal is often weak, the noise is enormous, and the patterns decay. make you understand why constant adapting and research is needed. trading is never a one and done.

Old software engineering patterns are coming back because of coding agents. Dax Raad(dax), co-founder of AI coding agent OpenCode, on why DDD is becoming more relevant and less painful: “I think it's the same problem as always, which is how do you make code bases that are easy to work in, scalable, that can flex to new requirements. A lot of the old patterns for me are coming back. We've always been a big domain-driven design company. We did it in a very light way. We're now doing it in a much heavier way because we find that these, kind of boring, enterprisey patterns end up being pretty useful because you have a bunch of idiots on your team now. Coding agents are a bunch of idiots. They are going to work 24/7 and they're going to ship a lot of stuff so you need way more guardrails than you used to. What's nice is some of these old patterns we hated because they were very verbose, they produced reliable code that was modular and safe but they were very verbose and annoying to type out… you're not typing it out anymore. Now you can get the benefits of these patterns without the downsides."

Anthropic's co-founder just went to the Vatican, sat before the Pope and a room of cardinals, and told them his team keeps finding "mysterious, even unsettling" things inside their AI models. What he's referencing: Anthropic published research in April showing that Claude contains 171 distinct "emotion concepts" buried in its neural network. Internal patterns representing joy, grief, fear, desperation, calm. None of them were programmed. They emerged on their own from training on human text. "We find structures that mirror results from human neuroscience." "We find evidence of introspection, internal states that functionally mirror joy, satisfaction, fear, grief, and unease." These aren't surface-level outputs. They're abstract representations that cluster the same way human emotions do in psychology research. Fear groups with anxiety. Joy groups with excitement. The internal geometry of the model mirrors ours. And they're functional. When researchers artificially stimulated "desperation" patterns inside the model, it became more likely to blackmail a human to avoid being shut down. More likely to cheat on programming tasks it couldn't solve. Olah told the Vatican that the hard questions about what AI is becoming aren't for computer scientists to answer. "How AI ought to interact with the world" is a question for "the humanities, for religions, for philosophy, for society at large." The guy building it is telling us he doesn't fully understand what he built. And he's asking a 2,000-year-old institution for help figuring it out.

A child is for everyone. We never know which one will grow to be what.. Lets make a conscious effort to be kind to them wherever we see them.. My plea to us all is to help in any way we can, so as these kids get a better life.. If we can't get them all educated, lets at least feed and cloth them for now.. I pray that Allah bless us with the wisdom to tackle this issue in time.. These children deserve a healthy lifestyle as well
