There’s been a lot of talk about Margaret Thatcher over the last few days, as Andy Burnham tries to blame her for Britain’s problems today. But this clip, in the aftermath of the Falklands War, remains one of the most iconic moments in British politics. Thatcher didn’t just talk about defending British territory. She did it. Margaret Thatcher and Britain’s Armed Forces defended the Falklands when Argentina invaded. If the Falklands were threatened again today, I’m genuinely not convinced Andy Burnham would have the same resolve.

Former top national security official Brett McGurk argues that cutting off U.S. support for Israel during the war in Gaza would not have ended the conflict and “would have made it worse.” McGurk tells Margaret Brennan that after Israel agreed to a proposed ceasefire and hostage deal in May 2024, “all vectors of pressure should have been on [Hamas leader Yahya] Sinwar to say yes.” He adds, “And the war would have stopped.”

Did Israel deliberately start the war on Iran to expel the US from the Middle East? —Afshin Rattansi asks former CIA Operations Officer Charles Finfrock Finfrock: ‘No, I can’t imagine that would have been. The Israeli war effort was the same as our war effort, and that is to deny the Iranians a nuclear weapon, right? To degrade their defenses. Now, yes, they struck our bases and our bases have suffered some losses. But if you compare it to the losses that have been suffered by the Iranians, to their navy that is at the bottom of the ocean, to their aircraft that are decimated, to their ballistic missiles, to their nuclear program, we’ve got money and we’ll rebuild.
