if democratic standards and corruption matter so much that they justify withholding or limiting support for Ukraine, why does the US maintain a close strategic and economic relationship with an absolute monarchy like Saudi Arabia (no elections, severe human-rights issues, etc.)

Who said “democratic” standards matters to the USA? Haven’t you seen USA toppling democratically elected leaders in Pakistan replacing it with a military dictatorship? Didn’t see USA supporting & funding Palestinian genocide? Btw: Ukraine also helped Israel.

Charlie Kirk was good at creating a large dumb fanbase. But that doesn’t mean he was intelligent or even a gifted debater. He had flawed arguments non stop.

The professor may have corrected Charlie, but to say he schooled Charlie is a bit of a srretch.

The professor was factually correct Under Ukraine’s current constitution and martial-law legislation, elections are not possible in the way Kirk claimed. Treating Ukraine as if it operates under the same constitutional rules as 1860s America is inaccurate. Different countries have different constitutions, different emergency provisions Kirk is delusional just like average republicans in failing to recognize that legal systems are not interchangeable.

From this debate clip, you can see immediately that Charlie Kirk is spectacularly uninformed. Zelenskyy NEVER said he was willing to give up Crimea or Ukraine; in fact, Zelenskyy has repeatedly said the opposite. Ukraine IS a DEMOCRACY, and Zelenskyy won the presidential election with a 73% landslide victory against his opponent, which is why Zelenskyy is the current democratically-elected President of Ukraine and is NOT a dictator. Kirk is unable to state that Russia, for example, is a very corrupt country, but he quickly says that Ukraine is the most corrupt country in Europe -- which is a Russian and MAGA talking point and propaganda. You'll rarely hear, if ever, Kirk and his followers criticizing Putin's invasion of Ukraine or Putin's bombing of civilian sites or his kidnapping of Ukrainian children. Because Russia executed a full-scale invasion on Ukraine, Zelenskyy was forced to declare Martial Law. While Martial Law is in effect, the Ukrainian Constitution prohibits presidential elections until the emergency is lifted. That is explicitly stated in the Constitution of Ukraine, but Kirk refuses to accept that fact and repeats the same tired MAGA BS that shows his ignorance or naivete, or both. Kirk's geopolitical positions and understanding of history are not convincing to educated people and especially to non-brainwashed Europeans, because what he is positing are not supported by facts -- they are supported by his opinion and lies that, if repeated over and over, like Trump, he actually starts believing his lies. But Kirk's rhetoric is believed by his gullible followers who are not very bright because they never question or critically think about Kirk's rants. And, his followers are easily swayed by his forceful nature and loudness. They so believed him and were totally enchanted by him, that they can be dangerous if you oppose his premise on any subject. To them, it was his way, or no way. Frightening.

I always thought Kirk was a comical sideshow. A pseudo intellectual, he was long on opinion short on supportive facts. He was entitled to his opinion, but lost most debates when asked to support his opinions with fact.

Would the U.S. be happy if China placed similar missile systems on the Canadian border or in Mexico? Of course not. Look at how the United States reacted during the Cuban Missile Crisis. Stop the double standards. Do not push for the continued slaughter of Ukrainians and Russians just to feed an already bloated and gluttonous military-industrial complex. Their lives should not be discarded so easily. Side note: I once had a Ukrainian neighbour in Mississauga. After a heavy snowfall I cleared her driveway so she wouldn’t have to struggle with it before she left for work at the asscrack of dawn. The next day a big fruit basket appeared at my door (it was delish). Growing up I also had Russian friends — Semyon, whose hardworking trucker dad and equally hardworking mother were always kind to me, and Kirill from Toronto, who I randomly ran into years later at Heathrow. Unlike many of us, Charlie wasn't even born when the Soviet Union ended. He clearly didnt glean his opinion from history class, but through Russian propaganda. There was no issue with the Crimea deal until Putin rose to power. And he's just trying to revive the Soviet Union.
