Chase Elliott says NASCAR makes the rules so to question whether Harrison Burton should be in the playoffs is unfair because this the format and the rules they are racing under.

Absolutely perfectly said

Go back to the old point system, it actually rewards skill, this new one rewards luck.

Correct. Don't hate the player. Hate the rules.

Do I think a car behind 30th in the points should get in? Probably not. But let’s be frank. If you’re behind 16th without a win, you absolutely don’t belong in the playoffs. And have no chance if you do somehow scrape your way in.

Rule number one: NASCAR is always right! Rule number two: If NASCAR is wrong, see rule number one!

Wait. It was just a week ago fans were up in arms about Austin Dillon wrecking 2 competitors to get into the playoffs. Now they don't like a guy winning clean and getting into the playoffs? Hey you @NASCAR fans out there who don't like the current rules. Lobby @NASCAR to change them or shut your collective pie holes. The kid won fair and square! Deal with it losers!

These questions are only asked because we're approaching the end of the regular season, and some drivers we expected to be in still haven't won or haven't enough points. You wouldn't hear this if Burton had won the Daytona 500.

That’s a “let’s generate hot takes” question. Great and I mean great answer by Chase.

What if there wasn’t a limit on playoff spots for wins, like say you have the top 16 points but the guys out of top 16 that win still make it. For example, this year we would have 19 playoff spots, but it would still go down to the round 12.

He's right.
