Brusselian bureaucrats are taking over the reins, while the whole system was created to serve us: the sovereign member states and their peoples. Not the other way around! Without change, the EU will continue to weaken from within. It’s time for a Union that serves its nations, values sovereignty, and puts its citizens first.

Donald Trump announces the new Monroe Doctrine; the revamped version of rapacious US imperialism in Latin America. He also states that enforcing US dominance in the Western hemisphere is a core US foreign policy priority. The dominance means dominating everyone else. Accepting only vassalage and satrapy states. In May I was invited to the Oxford Union to debate whether youth activism is "performative." But let’s be honest about what’s actually performative: sitting in wood-paneled rooms, debating , and sneering at a generation of young people who are trying to make change/ The reality? Gen Z isn’t driven to activism by TikTok or influencers. They are driven by the material reality of a capitalist system that has only ever offered them austerity, pandemics, climate chaos, and war. Revolutions don’t drop from the sky. They are the accumulation of a thousand different types of activism from climate strikes and BLM to the university encampments for Palestine. It is a molecular process. Young people are at the forefront because they have the most to lose, and they refuse to be burdened by the cynicism of the past. While the establishment sneers, a revolutionary wave is building. The question isn't whether youth activism is "performative" the question is how we organise that gut instinct to change the world into a real, material force that can actually overthrow the system at the root of the crisis. As Lenin once said: give us one generation of youth, and we will transform the world. We are not outnumbered. We are just out organised. Time to build.

Dear Lula, I have the utmost respect for you and for your role in the workers' movement against the dictatorship, but your comments about there being no workers in the October Revolution and the Cuban Revolution are totally inaccurate. When you were in Curitiba, I had given you Red Star Over the Third World (Estrela vermelha sobre o terceiro mundo from Expressão Popular - which has many pictures of workers who shaped the October Revolution. I can send you pictures of workers from the Cuban Revolution as well. Not only is accuracy important for us, but especially an accurate assessment of these important revolutions that are part of the history of the Left. These are not merely revolutions by intellectuals - as you put it dismissively - but these were mass struggles that culminated in the overthrow of ghastly regimes (the Tsar and Batista) neither of whom would agreed to any democratic change, the democracy you applaud. During COVID, we were effectively shut out of the global vaccine market, so we relied on Cuban science and developed our own vaccines. Our results were strong. When our oxygen plant failed, U.S. restrictions prevented American firms from selling us oxygen. When we needed ventilators, those were blocked too. Even building our own was difficult because equipment with U.S. components could not be sold to us, so we had to source parts piece by piece from different countries. This blockade is aggressive and unfair. It is not right to blame a government trying to serve its people while facing these conditions. Cuba lived under blockade for decades, but the situation became qualitatively different after 2019, when it was sharply intensified and we were added to the terrorism list. Now we face the accumulated effects of the blockade, its tightening, and an energy blockade. This is not the fault of the Cuban government. These conditions have created frustration and anger, but most Cubans understand the role of the blockade.
