I recorded this video five years ago in my Brooklyn garden, Back then, I felt safe in America. I thought I had finally found a refuge. But this is the same garden where a man with an AK-47 hired by Islamic Republic hid behind my sunflowers to kill me. Even now, I get goosebumps saying it. As I said to Garry Kasparov in my interview with The Atlantic, The terrorist regime of Iran, first, forced me to leave my mother behind. Then, their assassins forced me to leave even the cherry blossom tree I planted in her honor of her. Safety is too much of a luxury while terror crosses borders.

Today is our New Year. On Nowruz 2025, I wished to be with my mother, but if not, at least with the cherry blossom tree I planted and named after her in my Brooklyn garden. But they took that from me too. First, the government of my birth country, Iran, forced me to leave my homeland, my mother, my father, my brother and….. They tore me from the soil I belonged to. So, in my garden in New York, I planted trees after their names, a quiet rebellion against exile. But even there, they came for me. They sent a gunman to my doorstep, forcing me to flee again. The day he stared into my eyes among my tall sunflowers, I didn’t know I was about to say another painful goodbye, this time to my trees, my plants, my sunflowers. I wasn’t just leaving a garden behind; I was leaving a piece of myself. One day, when justice is served, I will rebuild, not just my life, but my garden. Not in fear, but in freedom. Only a gardener, a lover of nature, could understand what it means to be torn from your roots…. Thank you America for saving my life to celebrate another Nowruz with my friends and new family here… ❤️✌️

Must-read: Cindy Cherry, Don Cherry’s late daughter, tells all in new book about her father and his cancellation Cindy writes that after 38 years of compelling television, her father was cancelled simply for saying “you people love our milk and honey” and the “least you could do” is buy a poppy on Remembrance Day. Hard to believe it’s been more than five years since the most highly viewed segment on Canadian TV was abruptly cancelled and its star maliciously thrown under the bus. All for no valid reason, well, other than cowardly corporate suits bending the knee to a tiny woke mob of leftwing zealots. We speak of Don Cherry, the coach in Coach’s Corner. Whether you loved or loathed Grapes, Coach’s Corner was must-see TV. Again, you either loved Don for his unvarnished honesty and frankness, which is an endangered species in the world of sports broadcasting today. Or you loved to hate Don Cherry, as you would love to hate an entertaining villain cutting promos in the bizarre biosphere that is professional wrestling. The point is, millions of Canadians would tune into Hockey Night in Canada every Saturday night at approximately 7:50 p.m. E.S.T. Coach’s Corner was many things to many people. But it was never, ever boring. We make mention of the cancellation of this cherished slice of Canadian culture thanks to the recent release of a new book entitled, The Don Cherry Story by His Daughter, Cindy Cherry. Cindy Cherry doesn’t waste any time cutting to the chase. Thus, she begins the story at the end of the story. Namely, when her father’s tenure on network TV came to an abrupt and shocking end on November 9, 2019. That first chapter is entitled “Poppygate” – which is a fitting term given that what happened to Don Cherry was indeed scandalous. Cindy writes that after 38 years of compelling television, her father was cancelled simply for saying “you people love our milk and honey” and the “least you could do” is buy a poppy on Remembrance Day. We have viewed that excerpt over and over and over again. We have analyzed Don’s words for any alleged racism or bigotry or xenophobia. And we come up empty every single time. Indeed, Don Cherry was simply speaking the truth. You know it, we know it, everybody knows it. He was bemoaning that not enough people in Canada honour the war dead and our veterans come November 11. This is not conjecture; it’s the indisputable truth. Indeed, on Remembrance Day 2019, the day Don was officially fired by the way, we visited Yonge-Dundas Square in downtown Toronto at 10 a.m. to observe how many people were wearing poppies. In other words, there we were at this busy intersection just 60 minutes before the 11th hour of the 11th day of the 11th month. And we can tell you that less than 5% — yes, less than 5% — of passersby were wearing poppies that day. It was disgraceful, disgusting, and disrespectful. Oh no… was that a little harsh? Is Team Cancel Culture going to come for us now? Yet, the fact that Don Cherry was cancelled for speaking the truth makes for more proof in the pudding that freedom of speech is on thin ice in Canada these days. Due to political correctness, or its new name, “wokeness”, one is forbidden to speak the truth IF the truth hurts. That’s not freedom of speech — that’s censorship. Indeed, Don’s words somehow hurt the feelings of the uber-intolerant left. Or more accurately, these wokesters pretended to suffer from hurt feelings. Finally, these Marxists had some flimsy excuse to derail the career of a common sense patriotic Canadian that they loathed because of… oh, we don’t know… toxic masculinity? And let’s not forget the role of one particular liberal in this saga, namely Ron “The Rat” MacLean. Indeed, if Don’s words were so repugnant, then why didn’t Ron object? Rather, as Cindy Cherry notes, Ron was “bobbing his head in agreement throughout the dialogue, gave Dad the thumbs-up and at the end said, ‘love you for it.’” Furthermore, Cindy notes: “HNiC repeated this Coach’s Corner for their central Canadian viewers. How bad could they have felt it was if they rebroadcasted it?” But no, the cowardly suits at Rogers — caved to the vocal minority and quickly pulled the plug on Coach’s Corner. And when they did, Ron MacLean could’ve and should’ve taken a stand. He could’ve and should’ve said words to the effect of, “Hey, if Don goes, I go.” But then again, that would have made for a principled stand. And second banana rats aren’t all that concerned about principles, not when there’s a juicy six-figure salary on the line. It’s just business, baby. To add insult to injury, MacLean appeared the following Saturday to make a groveling apology. And soon thereafter Hockey Night in Canada went woefully woke in terms of the content aired between periods. It was insufferable and unwatchable. In the days that followed this cancellation, Cindy became further upset about the spin Poppygate was receiving. She writes: “The narrative that Rogers/Sportsnet and Ron put out to the rest of the media was that all Don had to do to keep his job was apologize and he wouldn’t. This is what a lot of the corporate media shills and people on social media jumped on—why didn’t Don just say he’s sorry and then he would have gotten back his job?” But Cindy says that narrative was completely bogus; that the fix was always in. She further writes: “To me, there was no doubt Rogers wanted Dad gone, so they backed him into a corner knowing he wouldn’t kneel to their demands. I believe many people knew there was more to the story about Dad’s firing but didn’t bother looking into it and just went with the corporate narrative.” In fact, it should be noted that it was never Cindy’s intention to write a book even though she always had a ringside seat when it came to being near her famous father. But there came a point during this raging controversy when she simply couldn’t take the B.S. any longer. She had to set the record straight. And for that, we owe her a debt of gratitude. Alas, it’s too bad the Cindy Cherry never got to see the fruits of her labour. Cindy passed away last July at the age of 67 after a brief illness. This was very hard on Don. Regardless, her legacy is a book that dispels the lies and myths that the left and the cowards at Rogers concocted when it comes to the Don Cherry saga. We owe her a debt of gratitude for setting the record straight about this great Canadian. Of note, Don Cherry is 91 years old. At this point, we must wonder how long this national treasure will remain with us. We can tell you this much: when Don passes, millions of Canadians will mourn that day. Some speculate Ron will be remembered as a backstabber and a betrayer, whereas Don spoke his mind, told the truth, and stood by his principles even when threatened with career cancellation — which did indeed come to fruition. One final thought: Don Cherry was and remains immensely popular. And once upon a time, he was responsible for the single most watched segment of TV in the nation. He was a cash cow when it came to attracting advertisers and sponsors. Thus, in the final analysis, the really disturbing thing about his unceremonious cancellation is this: if the powers-that-be can cancel Don Cherry, they can cancel anyone.

We make mention of the cancellation of this cherished slice of Canadian culture thanks to the recent release of a new book entitled, The Don Cherry Story by His Daughter, Cindy Cherry. Cindy Cherry doesn’t waste any time cutting to the chase. Thus, she begins the story at the end of the story. Namely, when her father’s tenure on network TV came to an abrupt and shocking end on November 9, 2019. That first chapter is entitled “Poppygate” – which is a fitting term given that what happened to Don Cherry was indeed scandalous. Cindy writes that after 38 years of compelling television, her father was cancelled simply for saying “you people love our milk and honey” and the “least you could do” is buy a poppy on Remembrance Day. We have viewed that excerpt over and over and over again. We have analyzed Don’s words for any alleged racism or bigotry or xenophobia. And we come up empty every single time. Indeed, Don Cherry was simply speaking the truth. You know it, we know it, everybody knows it. He was bemoaning that not enough people in Canada honour the war dead and our veterans come November 11. This is not conjecture; it’s the indisputable truth. Indeed, on Remembrance Day 2019, the day Don was officially fired by the way, we visited Yonge-Dundas Square in downtown Toronto at 10 a.m. to observe how many people were wearing poppies. In other words, there we were at this busy intersection just 60 minutes before the 11th hour of the 11th day of the 11th month. And we can tell you that less than 5% — yes, less than 5% — of passersby were wearing poppies that day. It was disgraceful, disgusting, and disrespectful. Oh no… was that a little harsh? Is Team Cancel Culture going to come for us now? Yet, the fact that Don Cherry was cancelled for speaking the truth makes for more proof in the pudding that freedom of speech is on thin ice in Canada these days. Due to political correctness, or its new name, “wokeness”, one is forbidden to speak the truth IF the truth hurts. That’s not freedom of speech — that’s censorship. Indeed, Don’s words somehow hurt the feelings of the uber-intolerant left. Or more accurately, these wokesters pretended to suffer from hurt feelings. Finally, these Marxists had some flimsy excuse to derail the career of a common sense patriotic Canadian that they loathed because of… oh, we don’t know… toxic masculinity? And let’s not forget the role of one particular liberal in this saga, namely Ron “The Rat” MacLean. Indeed, if Don’s words were so repugnant, then why didn’t Ron object? Rather, as Cindy Cherry notes, Ron was “bobbing his head in agreement throughout the dialogue, gave Dad the thumbs-up and at the end said, ‘love you for it.’” Furthermore, Cindy notes: “HNiC repeated this Coach’s Corner for their central Canadian viewers. How bad could they have felt it was if they rebroadcasted it?” But no, the cowardly suits at Rogers — caved to the vocal minority and quickly pulled the plug on Coach’s Corner. And when they did, Ron MacLean could’ve and should’ve taken a stand. He could’ve and should’ve said words to the effect of, “Hey, if Don goes, I go.” But then again, that would have made for a principled stand. And second banana rats aren’t all that concerned about principles, not when there’s a juicy six-figure salary on the line. It’s just business, baby. To add insult to injury, MacLean appeared the following Saturday to make a groveling apology. And soon thereafter Hockey Night in Canada went woefully woke in terms of the content aired between periods. It was insufferable and unwatchable. In the days that followed this cancellation, Cindy became further upset about the spin Poppygate was receiving. She writes: “The narrative that Rogers/Sportsnet and Ron put out to the rest of the media was that all Don had to do to keep his job was apologize and he wouldn’t. This is what a lot of the corporate media shills and people on social media jumped on—why didn’t Don just say he’s sorry and then he would have gotten back his job?” But Cindy says that narrative was completely bogus; that the fix was always in. She further writes: “To me, there was no doubt Rogers wanted Dad gone, so they backed him into a corner knowing he wouldn’t kneel to their demands. I believe many people knew there was more to the story about Dad’s firing but didn’t bother looking into it and just went with the corporate narrative.” In fact, it should be noted that it was never Cindy’s intention to write a book even though she always had a ringside seat when it came to being near her famous father. But there came a point during this raging controversy when she simply couldn’t take the B.S. any longer. She had to set the record straight. And for that, we owe her a debt of gratitude. Alas, it’s too bad the Cindy Cherry never got to see the fruits of her labour. Cindy passed away last July at the age of 67 after a brief illness. This was very hard on Don. Regardless, her legacy is a book that dispels the lies and myths that the left and the cowards at Rogers concocted when it comes to the Don Cherry saga. We owe her a debt of gratitude for setting the record straight about this great Canadian. Of note, Don Cherry is 91 years old. At this point, we must wonder how long this national treasure will remain with us. We can tell you this much: when Don passes, millions of Canadians will mourn that day. Some speculate Ron will be remembered as a backstabber and a betrayer, whereas Don spoke his mind, told the truth, and stood by his principles even when threatened with career cancellation — which did indeed come to fruition. One final thought: Don Cherry was and remains immensely popular. And once upon a time, he was responsible for the single most watched segment of TV in the nation. He was a cash cow when it came to attracting advertisers and sponsors. Thus, in the final analysis, the really disturbing thing about his unceremonious cancellation is this: if the powers-that-be can cancel Don Cherry, they can cancel anyone.

Best evening of our Xinjiang RV roadtrip so far: I think a good claim could be made we are as close as you can possibly get to the Garden of Eden on this Earth. We drove the RV for 7 hours to arrive in an amazingly charming little town called Wenquan (温泉), which literally means "hot spring," right on China's border with Kazakhstan. It's called this because (the smartest among you will have guessed it 😋) this place has natural hot springs, which is the central feature of the town: as you can see on the videos 👇there's a stunning hot spring lake packed with migratory birds where people can dip their feet in the water. And, this is where you'll get the Garden of Eden reference, this place is where apples originally come from! All the apple trees worldwide descend from a tree species native to this area - the Malus Sieversii. So, natural hot springs, wild birds, and the original apple tree - I don't know, rings a bell to me... Another fascinating fact about this place: it's mostly inhabited not by Han Chinese, nor Uyghurs, nor even Kazakhs but by Mongols! If you walk around town you'll see all the street signs are written in the Mongol script. In fact we're in a wider county called the Bortala Mongol Autonomous Prefecture (博尔塔拉蒙古自治州). Why is that? It's because in the 1760s, Qing dynasty emperor Qianlong needed loyal troops to protect the border right here so he sent a group of around 2,000 Chahar Mongol soldiers and their families all the way from near Beijing to settle here permanently. 260 years later, and their descendants are still here, and many of them actually still guarding the border! Quite literally multi-centennial commitment to duty. And, if that wasn't enough, we also had our best meal of the trip by far in this place, see next tweet 👇

Do you know the difference between Sunni and Shia? Have you actually read the Quran? Have you read any of the Hadith or Sunnah? We can all agree: nobody should be assaulted because of their race or religion in Canada. But there’s a massive difference between assault and vehemently rejecting a political ideology like Islam that also has a religion. Until you actually know what you’re talking about, slapping the “Islamophobia” label on everything is lazy, dishonest, and makes no sense. Most Canadians don’t have an irrational fear of Muslims or Arabs as individual human beings. Informed Canadians have rational concerns about political Islam being imposed on them often pushed by Muslims and clueless Liberal politicians who’ve never lived or served in Islamic-majority countries. Many moderate Muslims in Canada are decent, hard-working people. Things stay that way until the Islamic population becomes more than a critical percentage. Then the hardliners who follow all of their religion and don’t cherry pick the good stuff while ignoring the war stuff, take over. The moderates get drowned out and become irrelevant. They won’t fight their own, no matter how violent it gets. They fall in line as required by their religion. There are 1,400 years of history showing exactly what happens: how many former Christian countries were naïve like you, let Islam grow, and now their people and culture no longer exist? North Africa, the Middle East, Anatolia, vibrant Christian civilizations conquered, converted, or reduced to minorities under Islamic rule. EVERYTHING JAPANESE IS REALLY CHINESE. Seriously? Well, yes. I mean, this title is clearly a generalization, so what it means is that the main cultural items that are widely assumed across the world to be Japanese actually come from China. . 1. Ramen Raman is a Chinese noodle dish, not Japanese. It was brought to Japan by Chinese travellers in the late 1800s. The original Japanese name for it was “shina soba” meaning Chinese noodles. . 2. Japanese writing The Japanese writing system known as Kanji has a name formed of two elements. Kanji literally means Han Writing. Han is the biggest ethnic group in China. . 3. The Kimono This was an adaptation of the type of draped silk clothing from China known as Hanfu. After the start of the Heian period in Japan in 794 AD, it became popular in Japan and started to acquire unique Japanese elements. . 4. Blossom trees Japan’s famous cherry blossoms actually come a tree indigenous not to Japan, but to the Himalayas, which border southwest China—in fact a long way from Japan. The practice of celebrating the annual blossoming of beautiful trees such as the cherry blossom and the plum blossom spread from southwest China to Korea and Japan, taking several centuries to make that journey. . 5. Sushi Sushi is fish with vinegared rice. It is vinegared to give it a pickled taste which is a clue towards its origins: a Chinese pickled dish in which salted fish was wrapped in fermented rice. Even today in Japan, a sushi kitchen is called a tsuke-ba, which means ‘pickling place’. . 6. The Japanese language Japan has its own language, sure – but statisticians say that at least 60 per cent of Japanese vocabulary comes from Chinese origins. . 7. Being ruled by an Emperor In the early 7th century, the Japanese adopted the title of Emperor from China for their own leaders. They used the same Chinese characters, and the same concept that the leader, by definition, was the Son of Heaven. This new rank was then retroactively applied to all past Japanese rulers, who all become emperors and sons of heaven. . 8. Bonsai. The practice of growing miniature trees and creating tiny landscapes developed in China, more than 1,500 years ago. It was known as penjing. The technique was introduced to Japan in the 7th century. . 9. Sashimi It was the Chinese rather than the Japanese who realized more than 1800 years ago that the flesh of certain fish was delicious eaten raw – no cooking necessary. Food historian Jacqueline Newman says that raw fish consumption began in southern China before 200 AD. It came to Japan about 11 hundred years later. . 10. The tea ceremony The tea ceremony originated in China during the Tang Dynasty, which is 600 to 900 AD, as a meditative health practice, before evolving into artistic ritual by the time of the Song Dynasty, which started in 960 AD. It was then taken to Japan by monks, like many Chinese cultural practices. . 11. The board game called GO In western culture, Go is a game associated with Japan. In reality, it is the world’s oldest known board game, originating in China about 4,000 years ago, according to Encyclopedia Britannica. The game was taken from China to Japan in 500 AD, which is “comparatively recently” in Chinese terms. . 12. Green tea Green tea, or matcha, comes from China and has been consumed for probably 4,000 years. It was brought to Japan by monks during the 8th and 9th centuries—very recently by Chinese standards! Two holy men, Saichō and Kukai, are credited with bringing it over the waters to Japan. . 13. Architecture The Japanese admired China’s extraordinarily long-lasting structures made of interlocking wooden elements and there was a lot of temple-building based on Chinese innovations in sixth century Japan. The Japanese capital, Nara, copied the checkerboard street layout of the Chinese capital, Chang’an. But, it must be said, the Japanese afterwards developed many of their own unique architectural elements. . 14. The Asian super-sword It was actually Tang dynasty scientists in China who revolutionized sword-making in the 7th century with a blade called the baogangfa – they fused high carbon steel (which enable sharpness) with low-carbon iron (which provided strength). The result was a blade that could slice through samurai armor. Japanese envoys brought Chinese swords back to Japan in the 700s. To give them due credit, the Japanese improved both the recipe and the design, to eventually come up with the curved katana sword. . 15. Cultural figures One of the most famous pop culture items from Japan is Dragonball. The creator of Dragonball fully admitted that his story was simply a retelling of the Chinese classic Journey to the West. Pokemon, another Japanese modern classic, has many ancient Chinese elements, too – research the nine-tailed fox for example. . 16. Zen An Indian monk named Bodhidharma came to China around 520 AD. His teachings became combined with Chinese philosophies such as Daoism. That led to the development of a practice called Chan, which is how the word Zen was originally pronounced. Records indicate that Chinese Chan Buddhism reached Japan in the 7th century but was not firmly established in that country until the 12th century. . CONCLUSIONS? Okay, there are 16 items – things assumed to be Japanese by many people, but which are rooted in Chinese culture. But there are others. So feel free to add more. Or shoot down the ones I have listed, if you prefer. Why do so many Japanese items come from China? Well, for much of history, China was the cool place, the happening place, the creative place, the dominant cultural center of the most highly populated part of the world. So naturally people wanted to visit it. One ancient record show that between AD 603 and AD 839, the Japanese alone sent at least 17 diplomatic missions to the Tang Dynasty royal courts in China. The Japanese language Japan has its own language, sure – but statisticians say that at least 60 per cent of Japanese vocabulary comes from Chinese origins. . 7. Being ruled by an Emperor In the early 7th century, the Japanese adopted the title of Emperor from China for their own leaders. They used the same Chinese characters, and the same concept that the leader, by definition, was the Son of Heaven. This new rank was then retroactively applied to all past Japanese rulers, who all become emperors and sons of heaven. . 8. Bonsai. The practice of growing miniature trees and creating tiny landscapes developed in China, more than 1,500 years ago. It was known as penjing. The technique was introduced to Japan in the 7th century. . 9. Sashimi It was the Chinese rather than the Japanese who realized more than 1800 years ago that the flesh of certain fish was delicious eaten raw – no cooking necessary. Food historian Jacqueline Newman says that raw fish consumption began in southern China before 200 AD. It came to Japan about 11 hundred years later. . 10. The tea ceremony The tea ceremony originated in China during the Tang Dynasty, which is 600 to 900 AD, as a meditative health practice, before evolving into artistic ritual by the time of the Song Dynasty, which started in 960 AD. It was then taken to Japan by monks, like many Chinese cultural practices. . 11. The board game called GO In western culture, Go is a game associated with Japan. In reality, it is the world’s oldest known board game, originating in China about 4,000 years ago, according to Encyclopedia Britannica. The game was taken from China to Japan in 500 AD, which is “comparatively recently” in Chinese terms. . 12. Green tea Green tea, or matcha, comes from China and has been consumed for probably 4,000 years. It was brought to Japan by monks during the 8th and 9th centuries—very recently by Chinese standards! Two holy men, Saichō and Kukai, are credited with bringing it over the waters to Japan. . 13. Architecture The Japanese admired China’s extraordinarily long-lasting structures made of interlocking wooden elements and there was a lot of temple-building based on Chinese innovations in sixth century Japan. The Japanese capital, Nara, copied the checkerboard street layout of the Chinese capital, Chang’an. But, it must be said, the Japanese afterwards developed many of their own unique architectural elements. . 14. The Asian super-sword It was actually Tang dynasty scientists in China who revolutionized sword-making in the 7th century with a blade called the baogangfa – they fused high carbon steel (which enable sharpness) with low-carbon iron (which provided strength). The result was a blade that could slice through samurai armor. Japanese envoys brought Chinese swords back to Japan in the 700s. To give them due credit, the Japanese improved both the recipe and the design, to eventually come up with the curved katana sword. . 15. Cultural figures One of the most famous pop culture items from Japan is Dragonball. The creator of Dragonball fully admitted that his story was simply a retelling of the Chinese classic Journey to the West. Pokemon, another Japanese modern classic, has many ancient Chinese elements, too – research the nine-tailed fox for example. . 16. Zen An Indian monk named Bodhidharma came to China around 520 AD. His teachings became combined with Chinese philosophies such as Daoism. That led to the development of a practice called Chan, which is how the word Zen was originally pronounced. Records indicate that Chinese Chan Buddhism reached Japan in the 7th century but was not firmly established in that country until the 12th century. . CONCLUSIONS? Okay, there are 16 items – things assumed to be Japanese by many people, but which are rooted in Chinese culture. But there are others. So feel free to add more. Or shoot down the ones I have listed, if you prefer. Why do so many Japanese items come from China? Well, for much of history, China was the cool place, the happening place, the creative place, the dominant cultural center of the most highly populated part of the world. So naturally people wanted to visit it. One ancient record show that between AD 603 and AD 839, the Japanese alone sent at least 17 diplomatic missions to the Tang Dynasty royal courts in China.
