I think I am going to put his birthday: December 23, 1929 and his passing: May 13, 1988 in my calendar to remind me to at the least play Chet Baker all day twice a year. Lovely.

when he was good he was great, although that was not always the case

One of my favourites. I owe him my love for jazz. It’s strange at the beginning but once you enter the loop hole it’s an amazing and unique journey.

Time after time I have to pinch myself when remembering that I once saw him in live performance.

An idiosyncratic singer whose style I like on some things but not all. But he was an absolutely fabulous trumpet player who forfeited his genius through addiction leading to loss of teeth & thus his embouchure - meaning his playing became ephemeral & imprecise & his voice effete

A voice as smooth as silk. Always feels like he’s sitting right beside you when he sings.
