A 19-year-old woman was allegedly stabbed to death by her father during a counselling session in Uttar Pradesh's Banda district after she insisted on living with a man she had married against her family's wishes, police said. The shocking incident took place in the Badousa police station area on Thursday and has triggered widespread outrage across the district. According to police, the woman had been in a relationship with a young man from her neighbourhood. On May 18, she left home with him, prompting her family to file a complaint. A case was subsequently registered and police launched a search operation to trace her. Banda Superintendent of Police Palash Bansal said the woman was found safe on June 12 and brought back as part of the legal process. Her parents were informed and were called for discussions and counselling with police officials. During the interaction, the woman reportedly maintained that she wanted to stay with her husband. Police said she had married the man after leaving home and was unwilling to return to her family despite repeated attempts by relatives and officials to persuade her otherwise. According to investigators, tensions escalated during the counselling session when her father suddenly attacked her with a sharp-edged weapon, stabbing her in the abdomen. The injured woman was rushed to the Atarra Community Health Centre and later referred to a medical college for advanced treatment. However, doctors declared her dead. SP Bansal said that based on a complaint lodged by the victim's mother, police registered a murder case against the woman's father. The accused has been taken into custody and the weapon used in the crime has been recovered. "The woman had been safely recovered and her family was informed. During counselling and discussions with her parents, her father attacked her with a sharp weapon. A case has been registered and the accused has been detained. Further legal proceedings are underway," the SP said. Police have sent the body for post-mortem examination and initiated further investigation into the case. The incident has drawn attention across Banda, with many describing it as a suspected case of honour killing. However, police have so far registered the case as murder and said further investigation will determine all circumstances leading to the killing.

A woman from New Town, Kolkata, has reportedly been terminated from her job after a video of her verbally abusing an app-based bike rider during a dispute over a cancelled booking went viral on social media. According to reports, the rider alleged that the woman had booked rides on two different apps simultaneously and later cancelled his booking after he had already travelled over 2 kilometres to pick her up. Upset over the cancellation, he confronted her while recording the interaction on his phone. The video captured the woman allegedly hurling abuses at the rider and as per reports she was allegedly threatening to file a rape case against him, despite there being no allegation of sexual assault in the dispute. The clip quickly spread online, drawing widespread criticism. As the video gained traction, the woman's employer reportedly terminated her services, stating that her conduct could negatively impact the company's reputation. Reports also suggest that crowds later gathered outside her residence, prompting police intervention after she sought help. The woman subsequently apologised for her behaviour, claiming she lost her temper because she was running late for work. While many continued to target her online, a growing section of social media has questioned the public vilification and her dismissal from work over an incident not related to her professional duties. The incident has sparked a wider debate on public behaviour, the treatment of gig workers, social media backlash, and the consequences of making serious legal threats during personal disputes. Three men have been arrested for allegedly gang-raping a 35-year-old woman in #Karnataka’s #Hubballi on Friday night and circulating videos of the sexual assault on social media. Police Commissioner N Shashi Kumar identified the men as Shivanand, 29, Ganesh, 31, and Pradeep, 28—all residents of Hubballi. According to a police officer, the accused picked up the woman from the #Heggeri area, took her to an isolated location in an autorickshaw, sexually assaulted her, and forced her to drink alcohol around 11.30 pm. They shot videos and photographs of the assault, later sharing them on social media platforms. Local residents who learnt about the incident from the videos allegedly assaulted the accused, shaved their heads, and handed them over to the police. Shashi Kumar told the media on Sunday that the woman had arrived in Hubballi approximately one and a half months ago after her husband had been jailed in a domestic violence case. She had been homeless since, spending nights outside temples and on streets, surviving on food provided at the #SiddharoodhaMutt and other religious places. “The accused watched the woman roaming in the area and lured her offering money and food. Then they took her to an isolated place to gang-rape her. They also recorded videos and shared them on social media,” Shashi Kumar said. Shashi Kumar said that Shivanand and Ganesh were booked for the gang rape, while Pradeep has been accused of circulating the video on social media. While the locals assaulted Ganesh and Shivanand, a case was registered against the locals on Shivanand’s complaint. Four of the locals have been taken into custody. Shashi Kumar said he would hold discussions with the Hubballi-Dharwad Municipal corporation commissioner and officials of the women and child welfare department to explore measures to provide the woman with shelter and support her. A police officer said the woman hails from #Shivamogga district and that she had filed a domestic violence case against her husband a few months ago. After her husband’s arrest, she moved to Hubballi, the officer added. The police said investigations were underway in the gang rape case.

#APisNotInSafeHands Woman Brutally Stripped and Publicly Humiliated by TDP Leader's Family in Guntur In yet another horrific incident exposing the complete collapse of law and order under the TDP coalition government, a woman was allegedly subjected to a barbaric public assault in Krishna Babu Colony, Guntur. The attack began after she questioned local TDP leader Mallela Venkata Ramana Murthy over the removal of a water pipeline motor. After returning home from the police station, where she could not lodge her complaint, the woman was allegedly attacked by the TDP leader, his family members and associates. She was dragged onto the road, mercilessly beaten, stripped in public, abused with obscene language and subjected to a degrading and inhuman assault. She was allegedly kept in that humiliating condition for nearly ten minutes in full public view. Police have registered a case against Murthy and eight others. This barbaric incident is a chilling reflection of the Jungle Raj prevailing in Andhra Pradesh under the TDP coalition government. The Red Book governance, marked by political vendetta, lawlessness and the misuse of power, has emboldened ruling party leaders and their supporters to believe they are above the law. Such shocking brutality against a woman lays bare the complete failure of the government to uphold justice and ensure basic public safety. We strongly condemn this inhuman and shameful attack and demand the immediate arrest of all the accused and the strictest possible punishment under the law. This incident is yet another reminder that women are increasingly unsafe under the TDP coalition government. A government that cannot protect the dignity and safety of women has lost its moral authority to govern. Immediate intervention is needed to end this atmosphere of fear, impunity and political violence.
