After this 11th-hour budget deal was released on Friday at 7 PM, I spent the entire weekend going through it. It’s 600 pages long. Three major problems with the budget: ❌ This is a data center-approved compromise. Data centers are not required to pay the full cost of the infrastructure that is currently passed on to everyday Virginians through their electric bills. ❌ A 150% pay raise for members of the General Assembly. We’ve barely been able to produce a budget on time this year. What’s been done to earn that? ❌ The retail marijuana market proposal was a separate 250-page document. This should be a standalone bill we can vote on, not in an 11th-hour special session stunt. Bottom line: Virginia needs a budget – no one wants a government shutdown. But we need a budget that lowers costs, respects taxpayers, and protects families who are paying higher electric bills. I’ll be voting NO.

This is Teacher Min speaking. Thank you for all the effort you have put into your practice until now. You may feel a little nervous when you step onto the stage, but when I remember the days we spent playing our instruments together, my heart feels at ease and full of trust in you. I have not yet had the chance to meet Sunyoon and Junsok in person, but I have heard how sincerely and wholeheartedly you have been practicing. When I picture MIND BAND enjoying the performance on stage with all your heart, I cannot help but feel excited and happy as well. From now on, may you continue to broaden your wonderful dreams through music. Please know that your teacher will always be by your side, cheering you on with warmth and affection. In Trump ‘45, the President had a showdown with the Tennessee Valley Authority over 200 American jobs that TVA had switched to H1Bs. In the run-up to Christmas, TVA fired these 200 Americans - and had them train their foreign replacements on the way out. They did this despite the fact that TVA is (1) a government agency; (2) founded to improve the material station of poor Americans, and (3) manages critical energy infrastructure for a large swath of the country. My team and I proposed a plan to President Trump to reinstate the terminated American workers. Because the President of TVA cannot be fired by the President of the United States we thought President Trump should hold the TVA board members responsible - the highly-compensated decision-makers who had orchestrated the H1B worker swap. The President agreed. He started firing TVA board members one at a time, with a demand to reinstate the Americans to their jobs. It didn’t take long before the TVA president and the remaining Board members agreed to reinstate the American workers. At the time, some skeptical commentators said it was meaningless because it was “only” 200 jobs. But it was an important moment for two reasons. First, these 200 jobs mattered to 200 American families, especially with Christmas approaching. Second, it set an outer boundary for what short-term labor visas (which is ultimately what the H1B visa is) should NOT be used for: to replace competent American workers in a critical industry with temporary foreign visa workers just to save a buck.
