I was the mascot at Iowa. There were mascots from schools we’d interact with, but none of us even looked at Chief Illiniwek. That performance (football & basketball) was approved and certified by tribal members. We all knew to leave them alone. It’s a shame it’s gone.

Time to restore the chief.

My parents were definitely there (I might have been), lower deck, Sec K, on the 50, just near the edge of the upper deck. My Dad was known as The Twinkie Man. Chief Illiniwek only grew my respect and interest in Native Americans. It's a shame how this whole thing was handled.
