In India, here is how we would do 31 x 12: Method 1: 1 x 12 = 2 (carry forward 1) 3x 12 = 36 +1 (cf) = 37 31x12=372 Method 2: 31 x 2 = 2 (carry forward 6) 31 x 1 = 31 + 6 (cf)=37 31x12 = 372 Method 3: 31x12=31x10 + 31x2=310+62=372 Method 4: 31x12=30x12+1x12=360+12=372

The Japanese multiplication method is a visual technique that uses lines to represent the digits of the numbers being multiplied. The basic steps are: 1. Draw two horizontal lines. 2. Write the digits of the numbers on each line. 3. Draw vertical lines crossing the horizontal ones. 4. Count the intersections on each vertical line. 5. Add up the values of the intersections to obtain the product. For example, for 12 times 23, the product is 276. It is effective for numbers with two digits or more. Tips: start with simple numbers, practice, and be patient to master this multiplication technique.

I'll go with the Chinese method. It appears simpler and more relatable.

I beat them all with old math. [2x31=62] plus [10x31=310] = 372 If it's not broken, don't fix it.
