Reports claim Pakistan asked China in 2024 for help building a sea-based nuclear deterrent, the most survivable form of nuclear capability. Japan’s obsession with nuclear weapons is almost poetic. Saying it “doesn’t matter” whether America or China wins the AI race is dangerously naïve. This is like arguing that it would not have mattered if the Soviets beat the US to a nuclear weapon. American nuclear superiority kept the Cold War cold. If we want to do the same with China today, we must win this race as well. It mattered when the Soviet Union built nuclear weapons—and it matters now as the Chinese Communist Party seeks dominance in AI and advanced chips. America must lead in the technologies that shape freedom and security.
