China has turned drones into “maintenance workers” flying alongside high-voltage power lines. Instead of shutting down the line or sending workers to climb and manually deal with objects caught on the wires, Chinese power crews use multi-rotor drones equipped with directed flames to burn plastic bags, kites, nets, and...

WATCH: Russian forces started hanging FPV “waiter” ambush drones on high-voltage power lines. The drones sit with their motors off, which keeps their noise, visual signature and radio emissions low. When a vehicle or troops pass below, they power up and attack from above, and from the wires they get a better camera view and dive angle than from the ground. Ukrainian reports say they can wait more than 24 hours depending on how the electronics are set up.

Russian FPV drones suspended from power lines in ambush positions are being destroyed. The drones use hooks to hang from the wires and remain there until an operator takes control to attack a passing target. Ukrainian drone operators also use similar tactics.

Ukrainian radio military technology expert Serhii "Flash" Beskrestnov reports that the Russians started deploying FPV ambush drones on high-voltage lines. Such resolution provides an improved camera’s field of view over the road below and better attack angle once the UAV is launched at the target. Power lines provide elevated positions that are harder to spot than the drones resting on the ground. The UAVs can remain largely passive until a target appears, then activate and attack with little warning. It's also worth mentioning that high-power lines are often situated along the main roads and important logistical corridors, where intense movement of military transport usually takes place. Positioning the FPV ambush drones there instantly puts them in target-rich environment.

Not sure where this is because of the language but they are using drones to deice the power lines. Genius and could help the linemen during ice storms to prevent power outages.
