I have been writing about Duterte’s Rice Tariffication Law, it has a provision which inhibits the NFA from selling rice, a way for the government to have some control over the prices of rice and give our kababayan a cheaper alternative. The Rice Tariffication Law is not a piece of legislation President Duterte signed, it was his pet bill as endorsed by his economic managers. So if the Duterte supporters have a problem with the Philippines being the number 1 rice importer in the world, they only have former President Duterte to blame. You see the law takes away the rice import quota, before Duterte signed it as a law the state controlled the volume of importation of rice. For example, our rice sufficiency in 2023 is 77% so instead of allowing imports only with the volume we need… It's an open gate to all those who want to import. With the influx of imports, we have lower demands which is affecting the farmgate price of our local farmers. The effect of the Rice Tarification Law on our local farmers and the prices of rice is very much well-written by several universities. Maybe, what the Vice President said is true after all. Stock not water 🌚 WASH YOUR RICE MULTIPLE TIMES .. AT LEAST 5 TIMES (the plan is to get as much starch out of the rice as possible .. this is to avoid soggy rice). For seasoning, I only use maggi powder (because my stock is well seasoned so make sure yours is too). If you want that yellow / greenish colour, add curry and turmeric powder. Make sure to FRY your veggies. Fry with unsalted butter and vegetable oil. If you’re using shrimp / prawns .. fry, remove and set aside. Do not fry it with your veggies otherwise it’ll become rubbery and hard. Add once rice is done. If you’re adding liver, boil and fry in a separate pan before adding it to your veggies. You can use fresh or frozen veggies (if you’re using frozen, make sure to defrost it first). In my opinion, less is more with fried rice, don’t over complicate it with veggies. Taming the Edge: How lithium could help us control #fusion plasmas. This video captures the first flashes of lithium being injected into the #plasma of our ST40 tokamak, marking the start of our exploration into its effects. Why lithium? In fusion research, we aim for H-mode, a high-performance state with improved plasma confinement. Future fusion power plants are expected to operate in this mode. But H-mode brings a challenge: ELMs (Edge Localised Modes) are bursts of energy at the plasma edge, similar to mini solar flares. These can reduce plasma temperature and damage the divertor with intense heat and particles. Pioneering work by PPPL and others has shown that lithium can suppress ELMs and increase energy confinement time, leading to higher temperatures. On ST40, we’re currently injecting lithium powder during plasma shots to explore its effects. As part of our upcoming ST40 LEAPS upgrade – in partnership with the U.S. Department of Energy and Department for Energy Security and Net Zero – we’ll go further, coating plasma-facing components with solid lithium using the ‘lithium evaporation’ technique. We’ll be experimentally testing several mechanisms. One key focus is how lithium absorbs hydrogen isotopes and reduces their recycling back into the plasma, lowering the density at the plasma edge, leading to a more stable edge pressure gradient.
