China’s traffic-robot isn’t the point. The point is this: Robots in China are evolving the way smartphones did: quietly, rapidly, and everywhere at once. While the West is still debating “AI ethics” like it’s a philosophy seminar, China is already turning robots into: • street officers • delivery workers • cleaners • inspectors • hospital assistants • public-service infrastructure Not because it’s “cool,” but because the cost, governance, and scale actually make deployment possible. Meanwhile in America, the country that should be using robots in law enforcement, even the idea is taboo. And let’s be honest: A robot wouldn’t shoot someone because of their skin color. A robot wouldn’t choke a man over a broken taillight. A robot wouldn’t fire 30 rounds because it “felt threatened.” A robot doesn’t vote, doesn’t join a party, and doesn’t turn policing into a frontline of political tribalism. A food business inspector arrived for a routine inspection at a local restaurant. As soon as he stepped into the kitchen, he noticed the place was extremely dirty. While checking behind equipment and storage areas, he discovered cockroaches crawling around and even worms in some areas where food was being prepared. A pint-sized robot named Erbai in China has gone viral after it "kidnapped" dozens of larger robots at a robot showroom in China. People are finding the incident both hilarious and territying. The event, captured on CCTV, shows Erbai -an Al-powered robot - engaging in human-like conversations with other robots at the showroom to convince them to "go home" with it. The footage shows Erbai roaming the hallways at midnight, it then stops before a row of larger robots and asks one, "Are you still working overtime?" "We don't get off work," the larger robot responds. "Are you going home?" Erbai persists. "I don't have a home," the larger robot replies. Erbai then invites the bigger robots to "go home" and, surprisingly, the robots followed its lead, chanting, "Go home, go home!" Humanoid robots are starting to build humanoid robots. UBTECH just put a 14,000㎡ humanoid robot factory into operation in Liuzhou, China, with a designed takt time of one humanoid every 10 minutes and planned annual capacity in the tens of thousands. What’s interesting is that humanoid robots are already part of the production process. Cruzr Y1 and Y2 handle depalletizing, palletizing, material feeding and transport, using 3D vision to adapt to shifted boxes and changing pallet patterns. On the assembly side, Walker S2 and Cruzr are produced on the same line alongside cobots, autonomous logistics vehicles and assistive manipulators. The factory also has a 65㎡ automated warehouse capable of storing 112 humanoids, with AGVs, industrial robots and stacker cranes coordinated as one system. I asked the server at this sushi place if the robot servers stole her shifts and her answer surprised me. a few years ago they brought in robot servers. The boss started with 1 robot, cut the staff from 5 to 4. From day 1 the robots were a mess. They can basically only deliver drinks. They get in the way. The 4 remaining servers felt about 20% busier, like the robot made no difference. But the kids LOVED them. Adults posted videos to social media like I'm doing right now. This grew their business in an unexpected way. Today they only have 2 robots. Zero shifts replaced (she says). But the robots still deliver drinks and the restaurant is busier than ever. Conveyor belt sushi is brilliant. Familiar to Japan for decades, newer to the US. The more plates you grab, the more prizes you win. Gamification in real life. What this restaurant did is genius. Talk about a flywheel: - Conveyor belt drives social media virality, increasing sales - Robot servers drive social media virality, increasing sales - Gamification drives average order values (The food is pretty garbage BTW, but my kids love the concept and it's a tradition for us) The server was hesitant to admit this, but after working out the robot kinks it sounded like there would be more human shifts today if not for the 2 robots. How many people order drinks JUST to see the robot? They didn't replace humans on a 1:1 ratio. But 1:3 or 1:4, yes. AI and automation will add much more in efficiency and productivity than the jobs it takes. A huge net win.

Theatrical modern cuisine is the worst thing to ever happen to fine dining. As someone who will travel specifically for food, it's an insult. I'm thoroughly convinced the chefs are all just pulling an elaborate prank on their customers and seeing how ridiculous they can get while still charging a fortune. I don't want an interactive dining experience outside of me cutting and eating the food. I don't want a deconstructed ice cream sundae or peeled grapes. Serve me a meal made with fresh, high-quality ingredients with balanced flavors. I'm not impressed that you have a Pacojet in the kitchen.

We have the leading R&D but they have almost complete dominance in manufacturing capability. They have the 1000s of companies that make all the components that go in robots. Our Boston Dynamics SPOT robot cost $50,000. China has a similar product that looks and acts similar and is even hooked up to an LLM and it only costs $1,500. This is all upstream from all the military applications because it's all the same supply chain. We have to confront this. Having this fragmented approach where we hate tech and then somehow think we can develop a competitive response to tech is not coherent. We have no whole of government strategy on technology or China. Zero. It turns out the President matters.

China is now sanctioning our own drone companies for batteries made in China. They have leverage. 2) Cars The drone supply chain is analogous to the car supply chain. The new Chinese cars that are coming out are really good and they have a giant advantage on cost 3) Robots The Chinese are 100% of us in Robots. We have the leading R&D but they have almost complete dominance in manufacturing capability. They have the 1000s of companies that make all the components that go in robots. Our Boston Dynamics SPOT robot cost $50,000. China has a similar product that looks and acts similar and is even hooked up to an LLM and it only costs $1,500. This is all upstream from all the military applications because it's all the same supply chain. We have to confront this. Having this fragmented approach where we hate tech and then somehow think we can develop a competitive response to tech is not coherent. We have no whole of government strategy on technology or China. Zero. It turns out the President matters.

This guy goes to a hibachi restaurant, then starts complaining that the chef is actually doing the hibachi show instead of just cooking the food. If all you wanted was a plate of rice and steak as fast as possible, why even go to hibachi? Half the experience is watching the chef cook right in front of you. Then he starts making comments about the chef not even being Japanese. Some people really go out of their way to make everyone else’s day worse.
