Now that the world knows how much farther along China's urban areas really are, China-haters are transitioning their disinformation campaign to China's rural areas. While rural areas need more development, 100% of urban areas have running water, and 94% of rural areas have access to running water. Reality: 28 million people in rural area still need improved access to running water. China is a developing country. Under China's current common prosperity campaign, this is being addressed. 🇨🇳China unveiled BIG MOVES to support Global South at G20 Leaders' Summit. It's China's eight actions for global development, here's the detail👇 1⃣is to pursue high-quality Belt and Road cooperation. On top of 700 billion yuan ($96.7 billion) added financing windows and an additional 80 billion yuan ($11.1 billion) injection into the Silk Road Fund, China is moving ahead with the development of the multidimensional Belt and Road connectivity network, one that is led by the building of a green Silk Road and will empower a digital Silk Road. 2⃣is to implement the Global Development Initiative. On the basis of over 1,100 development projects already in operation, China will make sure the Global South research center that is being built is fit for purpose, and the $20 billion of development funds will continue to be put to good use to support developing countries and deepen practical cooperation in areas such as poverty reduction, food security and digital economy. 3⃣is to support the development in Africa. Xi said that at the Summit of the Forum on China-Africa Cooperation held in September, he unveiled 10 partnership actions on joining hands with Africa to advance modernization over the next three years and, in this connection, a commitment of 360 billion yuan ($49.7 billion) in financial support. 4⃣is to support international cooperation on poverty reduction and food security. This is another great illustration of China's development, even in its poorest rural regions. We've just arrived at the train station of Yabuli, a small rural town with a population of 50k and a ski station in Heilongjiang province, which is the second poorest province in the country by GDP per capita. And look at this place: it looks better - certainly more modern and cleaner - than the immense majority of train stations in Europe. That's what many people don't realize: they still view the Chinese countryside as this hopelessly backward and undeveloped place but it's largely not true anymore. For sure you can still find some poorer villages and towns, but more and more the prosperity of China overall is reaching every spot in the country.

China's government has more to do to help its poorest citizens. While "extreme poverty" has been eliminated, there are still about 200 million people in the most remote parts of China which are living on less than $10 dollars a day, but more than $4.20 per day. As of 2023, 90% of China’s rural population had tap-water coverage. The same report said rural tap-water rate is expected to reach 92% by end of 2024. The thing of it is that China's government is fully engaged in raising more people into a higher standard of living. The government and CPC are under no illusions that everything is perfect. China is now fully engaged in a program of "Common Prosperity" to continue to raise the remain population into a higher standard of living. Some of the 2035 goals of this program are to: 1. Per capita GDP to approximately double (from 2020), reaching levels comparable with “medium-developed” economies. 2. About 80% of the population would fall into the middle-income bracket 3. Ensure equitable access to public services (education, healthcare, social welfare) across the population by 2035. 4. Narrow development gaps between regions (e.g., richer/coastal vs. less developed inland) and between urban and rural areas. Partially through increasing urbanization from 67% (now) to 80%. 5. to “basically achieve socialist modernization,” which intersects strongly with the common prosperity agenda. 6. Broadly establish eco-friendly modes of work and life; by 2035, achieve “Beautiful China” goals: improve the environment, reduce emissions (or stabilize them), and make lasting gains in ecological protection. 7. According to a human development analysis, by 2035 China expects to reach a Human Development Index (HDI) of over 0.85, which would place it among advanced nations. I continue frequently taking trips into China's deep countryside, deserts, and its remote mountains to see this progress. And its heartening.
