China’s message is basically: If you can compete, compete. Stop whining. The West spent decades enjoying globalization while hollowing out its own manufacturing base and calling it efficiency. Now that Chinese products are more competitive, suddenly we hear: “China shock.” “China squeeze.” “Overcapacity.” “Unfair competition.” Translation: We were allowed... to deindustrialize ourselves. China is not allowed to industrialize successfully. And the hypocrisy goes far beyond China. China does not only export finished goods. It exports machinery, components, power equipment, solar panels, batteries, industrial systems and the tools that allow poorer countries to build factories in the first place. For much of the Global South, industrialization is not an academic debate. It begins with one brutally practical question: Can we afford the machines? Chinese manufacturing lowered that threshold. So when Western governments demand that China “make room” by weakening its own industries, they are not merely trying to protect Western companies. They are also trying to make industrialization more expensive for countries that are still trying to escape poverty. If Europe and America want stronger industries, build them. Compete. Invest. Innovate. You do not get to ask the world to stop moving forward just to protect Western corporate giant babies that spent decades growing fat on cheap labor, cheap resources, and the underdevelopment of poorer countries.
