According to reports, the new aircraft carrier with a displacement of 110-120 thousand tons is being built at a shipyard in Dalian and is designed as a direct competitor to the American Gerald R. Ford-class aircraft carriers. Unlike previous Chinese ships, the Type 004 will combine a nuclear power plant (based on Longwei reactors) with electromagnetic catapults and a full-size deck, providing virtually unlimited sailing range. The Type 004 is expected to carry an air group of more than 90 aircraft, including 24-30 J-15T fighters and more than 20 fifth-generation J-35 aircraft, as well as KJ-600 AWACS planes and unmanned aerial vehicles.
