Earthrise, captured by the Japanese spacecraft Kaguya from lunar orbit 🌏 Such a "rise" can only be filmed from orbit, because from the lunar surface, Earth always remains in roughly the same spot in the sky. This is because the Moon always faces Earth with the same side due to tidal locking. The video is sped up.

🚨 10,000 STARLINK SATELLITES IN ORBIT - AND NOBODY'S EVEN CLOSE SpaceX crossed 10K satellites last week. For context: the entire world launched around 8,700 total spacecraft in all of history before Starlink started. They're completing Starlink missions every 48 hours now. Just set a California pad turnaround record - 2 days, 10 hours between launches from the same facility. That's industrial-scale space operations, not aerospace. The constellation now blankets the planet with low-latency internet from pole to pole. Amazon's Project Kuiper? Still on the launchpad. OneWeb? Bankrupt and resurrected, now limping along. China's building their own - years behind. SpaceX isn't winning the satellite internet race. They've won it long ago. Everyone else is fighting for scraps. 🚨SPACEX TO LAUNCH FIRST-EVER HUMAN POLAR MISSION: FRAM2 CREW GOING WHERE NO ONE HAS BEFORE Monday night's Falcon 9 launch will send Dragon spacecraft on unprecedented journey orbiting both Earth's poles in low orbit. This mission marks the first time humans will fly a complete polar orbit - venturing over both Arctic and Antarctic regions. The veteran Dragon capsule previously carried Crew-1, Inspiration4, and made history during Polaris Dawn with the first commercial spacewalk. The four-person crew will conduct 22 research studies including taking the first-ever X-ray in space and growing mushrooms in microgravity. Source: SpaceX RT

The United Launch Alliance Atlas V has arrived on the launch pad for its midnight ride to low Earth orbit tonight, continuing the rocket's workhorse service in helping deploy the Amazon Leo constellation. ULA's Atlas has launched more than half of the network's satellites so far. ULA is proceeding with a continuous roll-and-launch in a single-day countdown, part of our efforts to increase launch cadence for our Amazon Leo customer. This effort reduces the amount of time the rocket spends at the pad, enabling launch to occur sooner. Liftoff time is 12:24 a.m. EDT (0424 UTC). // Amazon Leo

🇨🇳 China has launched nine computing satellites into orbit. A Kinetica-1 rocket from CAS Space launched from the Jiuquan launch site and placed several satellites, including the Chaozhisuan-1, into a sun-synchronous orbit. This satellite serves as a technology demonstrator for a future orbital computing constellation. The satellite is equipped with powerful computing resources and laser communication capabilities. It will be able to process data directly in orbit, receive "raw" data from other satellites, and transmit the results to Earth.

Launch technicians are the last people on Earth to touch an Electron rocket before it goes to space. When they depart the pad in preparation for liftoff, you know it's almost time to go to orbit. Your work day could look like this too. Launch Technician roles open now:

Project Suncatcher has liftoff! ☀️🚀 Announced last year, this moonshot project explores if we can one day host machine learning infrastructure in space. After years of research, we’ve just launched a prototype satellite, built in partnership with Planet, into orbit on SpaceX's Transporter-18 rideshare mission. This initial mission will gather data on how Google TPUs handle the physical stress and extremes of spaceflight. Ultimately, these findings will help us explore how to potentially link multiple satellite constellations for scaled machine learning. By operating in low Earth orbit, these systems can tap into near-constant sunlight to generate up to 8x more solar power than on Earth.

This is called an analemma. If you photograph the sun at the same time each day for a year, it traces a figure eight in the sky due to the tilt of the earth and its elliptical orbit. The same God who set those patterns in motion calls them by name in Job 38.

China has become the second country in the world with an orbital-class launcher system with first-stage booster recovery through controlled reentry and propelled landing. After delivering its payload to low Earth orbit, The Long March 10B had its booster landing on a recovery ship in the South China Sea with a net-and-hook system. SpaceX has more than a decades lead on the Chinese, with Starship being at a completely different position in this space race but the Chinese are clearly going to be putting a lot of effort into trying to catch up. It’s remarkable that the Europeans have been so slow to start experimenting with these technologies. ESA and ArianeGroup have been slow off their feet and both the Themis and Callisto programs are still very far from pulling off what the Chinese did today and miles and miles away from being able to do what SpaceX does.

Anthropic is preparing to launch a new feature called "Orbit" for its Claude Cowork platform, potentially debuting at the upcoming Code with Claude conference in San Francisco. The hidden developer gate for this feature is reportedly named "tibro enabled" ("orbit" spelled backwards). Orbit is designed as a "proactive assistant" that connects directly with workplace applications like Gmail, Slack, GitHub, Google Calendar, Drive, and Figma. Rather than waiting for manual prompts, it aims to proactively generate daily briefings, insights, and suggested actions.

The Soviet Buran program developed reusable orbital spacecraft comparable to the U.S. Space Shuttle, but with far more advanced automation. Its lone 1988 mission showcased a fully unmanned launch, orbit, and autonomous landing—an unprecedented achievement at the time. Lifted by the Energia rocket rather than onboard engines, the orbiter relied on sophisticated avionics and a unique engine-less design. Despite its technical success, the Buran program was canceled after the Cold War, and the only flown orbiter was later destroyed in a 2002 hangar collapse.
