All right, who wants a robot worm? 🪱 Researchers at Case Western Reserve University developed a robot inspired by earthworms. Worms move by using wave-like muscle contractions called peristalsis. This version of the worm-inspired robot has a flexible outer mesh that can continuously change shape. Using this mesh, the robot's fixed parts can move smoothly between each other, providing power and control. This project is referred to as a "soft hyper-redundant robot," due to its highly flexible nature and ability to adapt to various environments. This design could prove useful in scenarios where traditional rigid robots struggle, such as navigating tight spaces or uneven terrain. Teaching robots to perform dexterous manipulation tasks currently requires teleoperation, which limits demonstration quality, speed, and scalability. Instead, why not use human videos? The problem is that a human hand isn’t a robot hand, so data must be retargeted using simulation to resolve issues like collisions and interpenetration when controlling the hand. In VideoManip, Hongyi Chen and co-authors built a system to solve this problem, taking in RGB videos of humans performing manipulation tasks and using them to create accurate simulations with which to learn robot policies. 🆕 Player Movement Motions #eFootball Among the new motions, we have introduced a cross-step that sends the player in a diagonal direction and a precise step that defenders can use when confronting a ball carrier. Depending upon the situation, this will allow players to take steps naturally and adjust the way they are facing as they move along. As a result, attackers will start running and defenders will maintain spacing in a more realistic fashion, allowing users to play exactly like they imagined.
