The United States has approved arms sales to Taiwan with a total value of more than $11.1 billion. Some commentators say this is the largest U.S. arms sales plan to Taiwan to date. In response, Jiang Bin, spokesperson for the Chinese Ministry of National Defense, stated that the U.S. announcement of a large-scale arms sales plan to China’s Taiwan region seriously violates the One-China principle and the three China–U.S. Joint Communiqués, seriously harms China’s sovereignty and security interests, and seriously undermines China–U.S. strategic mutual trust, while sending a very wrong signal to “Taiwan independence” separatist forces. China is strongly dissatisfied with and firmly opposed to this move and has lodged stern representations with the United States.
