When you think "election" in the Bible, think Amos 3:2... It's brilliantly complexifying and *then* clarifying...

So good. I particularly love the triangle imagery where Christ represents the focal lens through which salvation flows and through which we are accepted as co-heirs. This deserves a proper YouTube video

This little one's on YouTube ( but, yes, maybe we should do a lengthier treatment.

Ps. 50 also shows this. Esp. vss 1-7. Derek Kidner in Psalms (Tyndale) has a great discussion of it. 👍

Does 'election' in the NT (eg Eph1) then refer to everyone who made the decision to be in Christ rather than god 'electing' as is commonly understood?

We’re all born in the negative column; John 3:17-18 Only the Spirit of Holiness brings us into the positive column. Except for “the little ones” that Jesus refers to, there’re only 2 columns. Consider Jesus binary statements in reference 2 the Prodigal; lost/found, dead/alive.

But Jesus isn’t ‘the true Israel’…he is the King of Israel, the king of the Jews (Mt 27:11).

He represents them. The King (the Servant of the LORD) represents the people (the servant of the LORD). The Son of God (Mark 1:1) represents 'the son of God' (Exodus 4:22). The Seed of Abraham (Gal 3:16) represents the seed of Abraham (Gal 3:29).
