Singles - 1994 Written & Directed by Cameron Crowe Singles Facts -Alice in Chains refused to do a playback for their concert in the film. They were allowed to perform live (which is featured at the end of the video below). -Cameron Crowe wrote an early version of Singles in 1984 set in Phoenix. After Mother Love Bone singer Andrew Wood died in 1990, Crowe was inspired by Seattle’s music community coming together and rewrote the script, moving it to Seattle. -When Steve is buying pregnancy tests and talks with the cashier, "Mr. Deegan's class" is mentioned. Mr. Deegan is a teacher in Fast Times at Ridgemont High, which Crowe also wrote. -Crowe originally wanted Chris Cornell to play Cliff Poncier, played by Matt Dillon. Crowe has said he worked with Cornell on the part and practiced scenes together, that Cornell was a natural. Unfortunately the filming commitment conflicted with Soundgarden’s achedule and he couldnt commit. -Eddie Vedder played the drummer in Citizen Dick, and also supplied the vocals for Cliff, on the song "Touch Me I'm Dick". -Jeff Ament (Pearl Jam) made up a list of fake song titles for the fictional band Citizen Dick in the movie. One of those titles was “Spoon Man.” -Chris Cornell liked the titles and wrote real songs based on them as a fun project. He recorded an early version of “Spoonman.” -That rough version plays in the background of Singles during the scene where someone is posting Citizen Dick fliers. -Check out the other cameos below, some great talent.
