Originally, Jack Nicholson turned down his role in the movie, but after a meeting with Martin Scorsese, William Monahan, and Leonardo DiCaprio, he was finally convinced to play the role of Frank Costello. The main reason he joined the production was because he had previously done a few comedies, and wanted to play a villain again, and he considered the character of Costello to be the ultimate incarnation of evil. Happy 71st birthday, J.K. Simmons! J.K. Simmons nearly rejected the role of 'Vern Schillinger' in 'Oz' (1997-2003) as he was afraid that he would be typecast as a Nazi throughout his career, if he accepted it. Initially, Toshirô Mifune auditioned for the role of Mister Miyagi in "The Karate Kid" (1984). According to director John G. Avildsen in the DVD commentary, Mifune was great in the audition, but Avildsen felt that his version of Miyagi was too serious and too much like the samurai warriors he played in Akira Kurosawa movies. Producer Jerry Weintraub didn't want Pat Morita to audition for Miyagi because he didn't think a comedian would be taken seriously in the role. James Foley & Mark Wahlberg spent a day hanging out and discussing about the part. His name is Argos, and he belongs to Ulysses, the Greek hero also known as Odysseus. Before Ulysses sailed away to fight in the Trojan War, he had raised Argos from a puppy, a fast and beautiful hunting dog. Then the war called, and Ulysses left. He would not come home for twenty years. When Ulysses finally set foot on his own island again, he came in disguise, dressed as a beggar, so that no one would know him. His house was full of men trying to steal his wife and his kingdom. To survive, he had to remain a stranger in his own home. No one recognized him. Not his loyal servants. Not the people who had known him all his life. But lying in the dirt by the gate, old and forgotten, covered in ticks, too weak to stand, was a dog. Argos had waited twenty years. Today would have been my nephew Matthew Perna's 42nd Birthday. If January 6, had never occurred, he would probably be married with a baby or 2. His Dad would still be alive, instead of deteriorating and dying a brokenhearted man, 2 years after Matthew. Matthew loved so many things in his life, one was music. His Dad was a classical pianist and taught him to play. (My Dad was also a pianist, who taught Matthew's Dad and the rest of our family.) He had not played piano for several years, but when he decided to stay near his Dad after his Mom died unexpectedly, he bought a used piano. This is a short video shows him revisiting a classical piece of music that he hadn't played since he was a child. He was determined to get back to playing, so he pulled out the old music books that he was taught from, and started again. After his arrest, he never touched those keys again.💔😢

Man, we used to be SPOILED with such amazing power forwards in the league. Chris Webber was such a SPECIAL talent. He doesn’t get talked about enough, so I will do the talking 🗣️🗣️🗣️ He was ahead of his time because he could pass, he had a 3 point shot (he was shooting 40%+ from three early in his career but not taking many), and he could drive to the basket- in an era where a lot of power forwards didn’t really have a perimeter game. He was a top 10 power forward in the league for most of his career and a top 5 power forward for a long time too. Keep in mind that was in an era where he was matching up with Garnett, Tim Duncan, Nowitzki, Rasheed Wallace, and late-career Karl Malone. He played against many of the all time great PFs and held his own🔥
