“CHRISTIANITY IS A RELATIONSHIP, NOT A RELIGION!” We’ve been repeating this phrase in Christianity for decades, but… it’s problematic The longer I’ve done ministry the more I’ve realised this phrase is usually just code for “I can live however I want and still claim to love Jesus.” The majority of Christians who say this are using this term to justify their disobedience and rebellion to God. It’s a way of escaping any accountability and branding it under the banner of love. The problem with this idea that Christianity isn’t a religion but a relationship is that it sets these two things against themselves as if they are opposing, creating a false dichotomy. It deceives people into thinking that they have to choose between a religion and a relationship. It’s actually both A RELIGION AND A RELATIONSHIP. The word religion literally comes from the Latin “religare” which means to “to bind” or “obligation.” Binding speaks of a covenant. Religion is a set of boundaries and expectations that God has to be in relationship with Him. Healthy relationship requires boundaries and obligations. When I said yes to my husband, I was saying no to every other man. I am now bound to him and I must remain faithful to him for the rest of my days. If you truly love Jesus - you will honor him. The kind of Catholicism practiced by Italians is the result of a profound inculturation that has been ongoing for many centuries. Italians are not a rigid or logical people. Their world is one of deep passions, emotions, and festive exuberance. It's only natural then that the religion they practice would be shaped and influenced by that temperament. That the Catholic Church has successfully managed to do this is a testimony to its enduring ability to be a truly universal faith, not a narrow and parochial one. It's a tragic shame that so many outsiders seem unable to perceive this and instead hurl insults and condemnations because they are either too close-minded or ignorant to understand (or even desire to) how such a unique expression of a religion could have been created and continue to exist, nourishing those who partake in it.

DMK dimwits often dwell on matters that are beyond their level of comprehension. Hinduism or Sanathana Dharma is a way of life! Religion, by its very nature, will have doctrines. Sanatana Dharma doesn’t have doctrines. It’s free. It flows like water. It doesn’t tell how to pray to God and when to pray to God. When some organised sects called themselves a religion, Sanatana Dharma had to also call itself a religion. This is the crux of Swami Vivekananda’s speech in Chicago in 1893. When there is only Ramasamy in the world, it’s easy. When there are two Ramasamies, then the initial is needed to differentiate. Sanatana Dharma predates the concept of any religion. Dharma is eternal as it doesn’t have an origin or an end. There is no hierarchy here, and all are equal. This Dharma sees everyone as a God. That’s why it’s timeless & doesn’t see any religion as a threat, and accommodates all different beliefs within it.

Sanatana Dharma doesn’t have doctrines. It’s free. It flows like water. It doesn’t tell how to pray to God and when to pray to God. When some organised sects called themselves a religion, Sanatana Dharma had to also call itself a religion. This is the crux of Swami Vivekananda’s speech in Chicago in 1893. When there is only Ramasamy in the world, it’s easy. When there are two Ramasamies, then the initial is needed to differentiate. Sanatana Dharma predates the concept of any religion. Dharma is eternal as it doesn’t have an origin or an end. There is no hierarchy here, and all are equal. This Dharma sees everyone as a God. That’s why it’s timeless & doesn’t see any religion as a threat, and accommodates all different beliefs within it.
