Best part of “Interstellar” is still the fact that Christopher Nolan spent $100K to plant 500 acres of real corn in Alberta (instead of using CGI to recreate a field). Then, sold the corn for a profit after filming. Remains most profitable commodities trade in Hollywood history.

For A Aa movie , Trivikram planted 500 acres of corn just for the film because he did not want to CGI the farm in. After filming, he turned it around and sold the corn and made back profit for the budget.🙏🙏

Christoper Nolan famously prefers practical effects over CGI (somehow, “Oppenheimer” has no CGI). He took the approach to the next level in “Interstellar”. Instead of digitally recreating a corn field, Nolan spent $100,000 to plant one and sold it for a profit afterwards. Why practical effects? Nolan digitally enhances his shots but prefers working on location and with cameras. “It’s more fun for me and the actors,” he said of his approach during an interview with the BBC. “There’s nothing more dispiriting than showing up to a green screen. The magic is not there.” For the “Interstellar” cornfield, the most difficult part was finding a location to plant 500 acres of the crop. The script called for farm land near a mountain (not a ton of those around). Nolan tapped Zack Snyder for advice because the director had filmed a cornfield in “Superman”. The final location: a plot of land outside of Calgary, Alberta. The intention was never to grow the corn for sale, just to get some awesome shots. But Nolan later said “we got a pretty good crop and made some money on it.”

Horses love corn. Horses love corn so much it’s ranked second only to oats in their favorable food items This horse is offered grocery store corn and he won’t eat it “The food in the store is not real food anymore” We have to stop spraying our foods with poisons, corn in America is routinely sprayed with a range of herbicides, insecticides and fungicides Herbicides (weed killers) are applied to 96% of corn acres: - Glyphosate (Roundup): Widely used, especially on GMO Roundup Ready varieties of most field corn. Applied pre- and post-emergence - Atrazine: One of the top herbicides used on 65% of acres for broadleaf weeds. - Others include Mesotrione (47%), acetochlor (34%), S-metolachlor (27%) Insecticides applied to 14% of acres: - Lambda-cyhalothrin, bifenthrin, chlorpyrifos, tefluthrin. Targeted at pests like corn rootworm, cutworms, etc. Fungicides applied to 19% of acres: -Pyraclostrobin, propiconazole, azoxystrobin. Used for diseases like gray leaf spot or northern corn leaf blight

The three row just wasn't going to cut it today. First time this thing has ever seen non gmo corn. 2 acres of open pollinated bloody butcher red corn for whiskey/bourbon/bread going in the ground. Toward the end you can see the plot we tested it on last year thats now sweet corn

This caught my attention. Significant cupping of the upper leaves, suspecting dicamba drift. Seed corn planted to the north. Why do we have labels that limit dicamba use in soybeans after a certain calendar date, but we allow the same chemistry to be used into July on corn?

Christopher Nolan cast Heath Ledger as the Joker to completely reinvent the character for The Dark Knight. However in later interviews Nolan recalled, “Really, in a sense, Heath chose me. I met Heath for a couple of films.” “he just was determined to do it. He just had a vision for something,” Christopher Nolan’s decision to cast Heath Ledger as the Joker in The Dark Knight was driven by a desire to radically reimagine the character. Nolan was not interested in repeating familiar comic-book interpretations; he wanted an actor capable of delivering psychological depth, unpredictability, and genuine menace. Ledger’s intensity, fearlessness, and commitment to character convinced Christopher Nolan that he could transform the Joker into something grounded, unsettling, and wholly original—an antagonist who felt real rather than theatrical.

For a scene this brutal, Christopher Nolan used practical effects instead of CGI. The stuntman had to physically sweep the pencil away milliseconds before his head hits the table.

In Batman Begins, the Scarecrow fire stunt used real flames and practical effects. A fire resistant silicone suit was made for stuntman Buster Reeves, with a descender rig for the single take fall. Christopher Nolan added minimal CGI later, including the flaming eyes.

🎃Since 1862, Union Pacific has delivered Halloween essentials. While none of them travel behind the Big Boy, it is rather fitting for #spookyseason. Our yellow locomotives haul more than 30,000 carloads of sugar, corn syrup, peanuts and chocolate.
